[28].Surah Al-Ankabut [The Spider]: Ayat 1-2

Ayat 1. Alif-Lam-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings.]
Ayat 2. Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: "We believe," and will not be tested.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Ankabut (The Spider) Ayat 1 & 2. A.L.M. (For these Abbreviated Letters, the Muqatta'at, on which a general discussion will be found in Appendix I (at the end of this Surah). The particular letters, Alif, Lam, Mim, are found prefixed to this Surah, and Surahs 3, 29, 30, 31 and 32 (six in all). In 2 and 3 the argument is about the rise and fall of nations, their past, and their future in history, with ordinances for the new universal people of Islam. In Surah 29 a similar argument about nations leads off to the mystery of Life and Death, Failure and Triumph, Past and Future, in the history of individual souls. The burden of 30 is that Allah is the source of all things and all things return to Him. In 31 and 32 the same lesson is enforced: Allah is the Creator and He will be the Judge on the Last Day. There is therefore a common thread, the mystery of Life and Death, Beginning and End. Much has been written about the meaning of these letters, but most of it is pure conjecture. Some commentators are content to recognize them as some mystic symbols of which it is unprofitable to discuss the meaning by more verbal logic. We are asked to contrast, in our present life the real inner life against the outer life, and learn from the past about the struggles of the soul which uphold Allah's Truth, against the environment of evil which resists it, and to turn our thoughts to the Ma'ad, or man's future destiny in the Hereafter. Ayat 2.Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, "We believe", and that they will not be tested? Mere lip profession of Faith is not enough. It must he tried and tested in the real turmoil of life. The test will be applied in all kinds of circumstances, in individual life and in relation to the environment around us, to see whether we can strive constantly and put Allah above Self. Much pain, sorrow, and self sacrifice may be necessary, not because they are good in themselves, but because they will purify' us, like fire applied to a goldsmith's crucible to burn out the dross.

Hazrat Maaqil bin Yasar (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "The reward of worship performed at a time of trials is equal in reward to an emigration to me.'' [Muslim Book 41, Chapter 24, Hadith # 7042]

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Ankabut Ayat 02. “Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: "We believe," and will not be tested” When turmoil is rampant and society is plagued with evils, the worship and obedience of Allah becomes very difficult. The reason being that in such a situation evils are widespread and therefore everyone easily inclines to them. In such circumstances, worship of Allah and compliance of His Orders are merits of great eminence and their reward have been likened to the reward of going for Hijrah (Emigration) to Al-Madinah at that time when this migration was Wajib (obligatory). Emigration was at that time obligatory and to bid farewell to home, property, business and homeland was sacrifice of the highest order. But this sacrifice was worth its reward. A similar reward is promised to those who will be obedient to Allah and worship Him in an age of mischief. A believer should avoid taking part in turmoil and occupy himself worshipping Allah instead.

[28].Surah Al-Qasas [The Narration]: Ayat 88

Ayat 88. And invoke not any other ilah (god) along with Allah, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). Everything will perish save His Face. His is the Decision, and to Him you (all) shall be returned.
Tafseer of Surah Al-Qasas (The Narration) Ayat 88. And call not, besides Allah, on another god. There is no god but He. Everything (that exists) will perish except His own Face. To Him belongs the Command, and to Him will ye (all) be brought back. This sums up the lesson of the whole Surah. The only Eternal Reality is Allah. The whole phenomenal world is subject to flux and change and will pass away, but He will endure forever.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said,"The most truthful statement a poet has ever made is the saying of Labid: Everything besides Allah is vain.'' [Al-Bukhari Book 05, Chapter 58, Hadith # 181]

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 88. “invoke not any other ilah (god) along with Allah” 1. We learn from this Hadith that to compose, recite and quote good verses, as evidence, is permissible. 2. The Verse of Labid, quoted in this Hadith, is the same effect as the verdict of the Noble Qur'an: "Whatsoever is on (the earth) will perish." (55:26). This Verse accepts the eternity of the Afterlife and the transitory nature of this world.

[28].Surah Al-Qasas [The Narration]: Ayat 87

Ayat 87. And let them not turn you (O Muhammadimage001.jpg SAWW (PBUH) away from (preaching) the Ayat(revelations and verses) of Allah after they have been sent down to you, and invite (men / women) to (believe in) your Lord [i.e. : in the Oneness (Tauhid) of Allah (1) Oneness of the Lordship of Allah; (2) Oneness of the worship of Allah; (3) Oneness of the Names and Qualities of Allah], and be not of Al-Mushrikun (those who associate partners with Allah, e.g. polytheists, pagans, idolaters, those who disbelieve in the Oneness of Allah and deny the Prophet hood of Messenger Muhammad image001.jpg SAWW (PBUH).

Tafseer of Surah Al-Qasas (The Narration) Ayat 87. And let nothing keep thee back from the Signs of Allah after they have been revealed to thee: and invite (men) to thy Lord, and be not of the company of those who join gods with Allah. The soldier of Allah, having taken up the fight against Evil, and knowing that he is in touch with the true Light, never yields an inch of ground. He is always to the fore in inviting others to his own ranks, but he himself refuses to be with those who worship anything else but Allah.

Hazrat Abu Masud Uqbah bin Amr Al-Ansari Al-Badri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [S.A.W.W]((P.B.U.H)  said, "Whoever guides someone to virtue will be rewarded equivalent to him who practices that good action". [Muslim].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 87. “invite (men / women) to (believe in) your Lord” The statement quoted in this Hadith was made by the Prophet image001.jpg [S.A.W.W](P.B.U.H) when, on a certain occasion, someone requested him to give an animal for riding. The Prophet (PBUH) replied that he did not have any. A man who was present there said that he could show him the man who could help him in the matter. This is how the Prophet image001.jpg [S.A.W.W](P.B.U.H) revealed the reward of directing people to good deeds, which is mentioned in this Hadith.

[28].Surah Al-Qasas [The Narration]: Ayat 86

Ayat 86. And you were not expecting that the Book (this Quran) would be sent down to you, but it is a mercy from your Lord. So never be a benefactor of the disbelievers.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Qasas (The Narration) Ayat 86. And thou hadst not expected that the Book would be sent to the except as a Mercy from thy Lord: Therefore lend not thou support in any way to those who reject (Allah´s Message). Revelation and the preaching of Truth may in the beginning bring persecution, conflict, and sorrow in its train; but in reality it is the truest mercy from Allah, which comes even without our expecting it, as it came to the Prophets without their consciously asking for it. This is proved in the history of Moses related in this Surah, and the history of the Holy Prophet which it is meant to illustrate. If Allah's Message is unpalatable to Evil and is rejected by it, those who accept it may (in their natural human feelings) sometimes wonder that such should be the case, and whether it is really Allah's Will that the conflict which ensues should be pursued. Any such hesitation would lend unconscious support to the aggressions of evil and should be discarded. The servant of Allah stands forth boldly as his Mujahid (fighter of the good fight), daring all, and knowing that Allah is behind him.

Hazrat Abu Umamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "The superiority of the learned over the devout worshipper is like my superiority over the most inferior amongst you (in good deeds).'' He went on to say, "Allah, His angels, the dwellers of the heaven and the earth, and even the ant in its hole and the fish (in water) supplicate in favor of those who teach people knowledge.''
[At-Tirmidhi, Hadith # 2685]

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 86. “And you were not expecting that the Book (thisQuran) would be sent down to you, but it is a mercy from your Lord” Alim (learned person) here means scholar of the Qur'an and Hadith, who adheres to Faraid and Sunnah and remains busy in learning and imparting knowledge. `Abid (devout worshipper) is one who spends most of his time in the worship of Allah. The benefit of his voluntary prayer and remembrance of Allah is restricted to his own self while the benefit of knowledge of the scholar reaches others also. Hence, of the two, the latter is far superior. If Salat is mentioned with reference to Allah, it denotes "Allah's Grace with Mercy;'' if it is mentioned with reference to the angels, it denotes "to pray for forgiveness;'' and if it is mentioned with reference to other creatures - men, animals, etc., - then it means prayer and supplication. Thus, Allah graces that person with His Mercy who teach people the beneficial knowledge, i.e., the knowledge of Islam; angels pray to Allah to forgive his (or her) sins; and other creatures pray for his (or her) well-being. In this way, this Hadith stresses the distinction of religious scholars and highlights the esteem in which they are held by Allah, His angels and His other creatures.

[28].Surah Al-Qasas [The Narration]: Ayat 85

Ayat 85. Verily, He Who has given you (O Muhammadimage001.jpg SAWW (PBUH) the Qur'an (i.e. ordered you to act on its laws and to preach it to others) will surely bring you back to the Ma'ad (place of return, either to Makkah or to Paradise after your death, etc.). Say (O Muhammad image001.jpg SAWW (PBUH): "My Lord is Aware of him who brings guidance, and he who is in manifest error."

Tafseer of Surah Al-Qasas (The Narration) Ayat 85. Verily Allah ordained the Quran for thee, will bring thee back to the Place of your birth and city you love as captor. Oh Messenger of Allah SAWW Say to them: "My Lord knows best who it is that brings true guidance, and who is in manifest error." That is: order in His wisdom and mercy that theQuran should be revealed, containing guidance for conduct in this life and the next, and further ordered that it should be read out and taught and its principles observed in practice. It is because of this teaching and preaching that the Holy Prophet SAWW was persecuted, but as Allah sent the Quran, He will see that those who follow it will not eventually suffer, but be restored to happiness in the Place of Return, for which see next note. Place of Return: (1) a tide of Makkah; (2) the occasion when we shall be restored to the Presence of our Lord. It is said that this verse was revealed at Juhfa, on the road from Makkah to Madinah, a short distance from Makkah, on the Hijrah journey. The Prophet SAWW was sad at heart, and this was given as consolation to him. If this was the particular occasion, the general meaning would refer the Place of Return to the occasion of the Resurrection, when all true values will be restored, however they may be disturbed by the temporary interference of Evil in this life. Allah knows the true from the false, and if we are persecuted for our Faith and attacked or spoken ill of because we dare to do right, our surest refuge is an appeal to Allah rather than to men.
Hazrat Mauwiyah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "When Allah wishes good for someone, He bestows upon him the understanding of Deen.'' [Al-Bukhari Book 01, Chapter 03, Hadith # 071].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 85. “"My Lord is Aware of him who brings guidance”Knowledge and understanding of Deen (religion) here stands for the understanding of the Qur'an and Hadith, religious injunctions, and knowledge of the lawful and the unlawful. This Hadith highlights the excellence of knowledge and the fact that it is a sign of Allah's Help to the person who possesses it and acts upon it.

[28].Surah Al-Qasas [The Narration]: Ayat 84

Ayat 84. Whosoever brings good (Islamic Monotheism along with righteous deeds), he shall have the better thereof, and whosoever brings evil (polytheism along with evil deeds) then, those who do evil deeds will only be Punished for what they used to do.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Qasas (The Narration) Ayat 84. If any does good, the reward to him is better than his deed; but if any does evil, the doers of evil are only punished (to the extent) of their deeds. A good deed has its sure reward, and that reward will be better than the merits of the doer. An evil deed may be forgiven by repentance, but in any case will not be punished with severe penalty than justice demands.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allahimage001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said,  "If anyone calls others to follow right guidance, his reward will be equivalent to those who follow him (in righteousness) without their reward being diminished in any respect, and if anyone invites others to follow error, the sin, will be equivalent to that of the people who follow him (in sinfulness) without their sins being diminished in any respect". [Muslim Book # 06, Chapter 34, Hadith # 6470].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 84. “Whosoever brings good (Islamic Monotheism along with righteous deeds), he shall have the better thereof” Invitation' and `Call' stand to mean here that someone induces others to virtue or seduces to sin by means of his speech or action. We come to know from this Hadith that one who becomes a medium for either of them is given a reward or punishment respectively by Allah (SWT).

[28].Surah Al-Qasas [The Narration]: Ayat 83

Ayat 83. That home of the Hereafter (i.e. Paradise), Allah shall assign to those who rebel not against the truth with pride and oppression in the land nor do mischief by committing crimes. And the good end is for the Muttaqun (pious).

Tafseer of Surah Al-Qasas (The Narration) Ayat 83. That Home of the Hereafter We shall give to those who intend not high- handedness or mischief on earth: and the end is (best) for the righteous. High-handedness or arrogance, as opposed to submission to the Will of Allah, Islam. Mischief, as opposed to doing good, bringing forth fruits of righteousness. It is the righteous who will win in the end.

Hazrat Abu Said Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Allah, the Rubb of honour and glory, will say to the inhabitants of Jannah: `O inhabitants of Jannah!' They will respond: `Here we are! At Your service, O our Rubb. All good is in Your Hand!' He will ask them: `Are you pleased?' They will reply: `Why should we not be pleased, O Rubb, when You have given us what You have not given to any of Your creatures?' Allah will say: `Shall I not give you something better than that?' They will ask: `O Rubb! What can be better than that?' Allah will say: `I shall bestow My Pleasure upon you and I shall never be displeased with you.'''
[Al-Bukhari Book 08, Chapter 76, Hadith # 557].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 83. “Home of the Hereafter (i.e. Paradise), Allah shall assign to those who rebel not against the truth” The declaration about Allah being pleased with the dwellers of Jannah will certainly be the greatest of the boons and rewards of Jannah.
