[23].Surah Al-Muminun [The Believers]: Ayat 35-38

Ayat 35. "Does he promise you that when you have died and have become dust and bones, you shall come out alive (resurrected)?
Ayat 36. "Far, very far is that which you are promised.
Ayat 37. "There is nothing but our life of this world! We die and we live! And we are not going to be resurrected!
Ayat 38. "He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him."

[Tafseer] of ayat 35. "They question the promise that when one shall die and become dust and bones, ye shall be brought forth (again)? in ayat 36. "Far, very far is that which ye are promised! ayat 37. "There is nothing but our life in this world! We shall die and we live! But we shall never be raised up again! They seem to say: "There is no future life: that we shall die is certain; that we have this life is certain: some die, some are born, some live; and so the cycle continues: but how can dead men be raised to life?" ayat 38. "He is only a man who invents a lie against Allah, but we are not the ones to believe in him!" "He is only a fool, and invents things, and attributes them to Allah's inspiration! We are too wise, to believe such things!".
Hazrat Abu Said Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "When a dead body is placed on a bier and men carry it on their shoulders, if the deceased was pious, it (the corpse) will say: `Take me in haste'; but if he was not, it will say (to its bearers): `Woe to it. Where are you taking it?' Everything except man hears its voice. Had a human being heard its voice, he would have surely died".
[Al-Bukhari, Book 02, Chapter 23, Hadith # 400]
Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Muminun Ayat 35."when you have died and have become dust and bones, you shall come out alive" The speech of a dead is a matter of the realm of the Unseen (or Al-Ghaib) which is mentioned in this Hadith. A deceased person will certainly say what has been disclosed here. A Muslim must have absolute faith in it. Almighty Allah is certainly capable of endowing the power of speech on a deceased person as he does speak with the angels (Munkar and Nakir) when they come to the dead in the grave and question him. This Hadith is intended to induce people to virtues so that after death, one has not to say: "Woe to me! Where are you taking me?". One should spend the life in such a manner that after death when he is taken to the graveyard for burial, he should be in a position to say: "Hasten to take me to my grave so that I can enjoy Divine blessings there".

[23].Surah Al-Muminun [The Believers]:Ayat 33-34

Ayat 33. And the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, and to whom We had given the luxuries and comforts of this life, said: "He is no more than a human being like you, he eats of that which you eat, and drinks of what you drink.
Ayat 34. "If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, then verily! You indeed would be losers.
[Tafseer] of ayat 33. The chiefs disbelieved and denied the day of Resurrection, and on whom Allah had bestowed the good things of this life, said: "The Prophet is no more than a man like yourselves: he eats and drink as you like common human being. and as further the deny and said as explain in ayat 34. "If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost. The type of the narrow Sybarite, who enjoys the good things of this life, denies a future life, and is jealous of any one who presumes to widen his horizon, is here described in a few masterly strokes. He is bored by any mention of the serious things beyond his ken. What good is it, he says, to talk about the future? Enjoy the present. The gain is all in the present: the loss is all in the future.

Hazrat Ali (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: We were accompanying a funeral procession in Baqi Al-Gharqad (graveyard in Al-Madinah) when the Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) proceeded towards us and sat down. We sat around him. He had a small stick in his hand. He was bending down his head and scraping the ground with the stick. He said, "There is none among you but has a place assigned for him either in the Jannah or in the Hell.'' The Companions said: "O Messenger of Allah, should we not depend upon what has been written for us (and give up doing good deeds)?'' The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Carry on doing good deeds. Every one will find it easy to do such deeds (as will lead him to his destined place) for which he has been created.''
[Al-Bukhari 02, Chapter 23, Hadith # 444].
Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Muminun Ayat 33."who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter" The subject of this chapter is exactly related to the Hadith accounting for reasons of giving a sermon speech beside the grave. As the dimension of the world's impermanent nature and a heart-moving scene directly confront a man's eyes on this occasion, any moral exhortation is most likely to touch the heart. Secondly, the good or bad deeds of man during his fixed life span in this world prefigure in Allah's Knowledge, and He has ordained the good or bad end of everybody. But this does not mean that man is simply helpless in doing what Allah has predetermined. Indeed, Allah already knows that such and such a person will adopt the righteous conduct and meet a good end; and such and such a person will take to the mischievous way and consequently meet a bad end. Unless man has access to Allah's Knowledge and the Preserved Tablet (which is impossible), he is not supposed to give up the right conduct by banking upon His Knowledge. When he is totally ignorant of the Sacred Writ on his ultimate end, he has no other choice but to continue endeavouring in good pursuits. Allah has given him the freedom of choice and will subject him to accountability on this count alone. Moreover, it is the Divine principle that He helps everybody do only that type of work - facilitating it to him as well - which is germane to his bent of mind. Then, there is no reason that man should lag behind in embarking upon the virtuous path and not try to seek the Grace of Allah.

[23].Surah Al-Muminun [The Believers]:Ayat 31-32

Ayat 31. Then, after them, We created another generation.
Ayat 32. And We sent to them a Messenger from among themselves (saying): "Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. Will you not then be afraid (of Him i.e. of His Punishment because of worshipping others besides Him)?"

[Tafseer] of ayat 31. Then Allah raised after them another generation. in ayat 32. And Allah sent to them a messenger from among themselves, (saying), "Worship Allah. ye have no other God but Him. Will ye not fear (Him)?" If this refers to any particular prophet, it must be Hud whose mission was to the 'Ad people, or to Salih PBUH, whose mission was to the Thamud people. That is the sequence after Noah PBUH. But 1 think that as the name is not mentioned, we are to understand in general the type of post-Flood prophets until we come later on to Moses PBUH and Essa PBUH (Jesus). The object here is not to recount the stories, but to show that the resistance of the wicked made no difference to the triumph of Allah's Holy Truth.

Hazrat Bara bin Azib (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "When a believer is questioned in the grave, he testifies that, `there is no true god except Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.' About him the Words of Allah, the Exalted, are: `Allah will keep firm those who believe, with the firm statement (The Testimony of Faith) in this world and the Hereafter)". (14:27)
[Al-Bukhari Book 06, Chapter 60, Hadith # 221].
Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Muminun Ayat 32.""Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him" This Hadith mentions both the parts of the Shahadah together, that is to say "La ilaha illallah, Muhammad-ur-Rasulullah'' (There is no true god except Allah, and Muhammad [SAWW](PBUH) is the Messenger of Allah). The questioning in the grave is beyond question and is a part of Muslim Belief. Every Muslim will, by the Grace of Allah, give their correct answers in respect of Tauhid and Risalah.

[23].Surah Al-Muminun [The Believers]:Ayat 28-30

Ayat 28. And when you have embarked on the ship, you and whoever is with you, then say: "All the praises and thanks be to Allah, Who has saved us from the people who are Zalimun (i.e. oppressors, wrong-doers, polytheists, those who join others in worship with Allah, etc.).
Ayat 29. And say: "My Lord! Cause me to land at a blessed landing-place, for You are the Best of those who bring to land."
Ayat 30. Verily, in this [what We did as regards drowning of the people of Nuh PBUH(Noah)], there are indeed Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc. for men to understand), for sure We are ever putting (men) to the test.
[Tafseer] of ayat 28. And when thou hast embarked on the Ark - thou and those with thee,- say: "Praise be to Allah, Who has saved us from the people who do wrong." "istawa" Here the meaning is: mounted on board, ascended, embarked. ayat 29. Nuh PBUH is asked to say pray: "O my Lord! enable me to disembark with thy blessing: for Thou art the Best to enable (us) to disembark." This second prayer was inspired when the Flood subsided, and the time came for disembarkation. ayat 30. Verily in this there are Signs (for men to understand); (thus) do We try (men). Noah's contemporaries had all sorts of chances and warnings, but they refused to believe and perished. But Allah's Truth survived, and it went to the next and succeeding generations. Will not mankind understand?
Hazrat Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: A young Jewish boy who was in the service of the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) fell ill. The Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) went to visit him. He sat down by his head and said to him, "Embrace Islam.'' The little boy looked at his father who was sitting beside him. He said: "Obey Abul-Qasim (i.e., the Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH)).'' So he embraced Islam and the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) stepped out saying, "Praise be to Allah Who has saved him from Hell-fire.''
[Muslim, Book 07, Chapter 70, Hadith # 561]
Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Muminun Ayat 28."say: "All the praises and thanks be to Allah" Herein, the example of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) inspires us to visit even a sick disbeliever and invite him to accept Islam. Besides, the Hadith tells that the company of the virtuous does bear fruit and that we should continue to hope that the heart of a disbeliever will turn to Allah at any moment. Furthermore, we come to believe that parents, though not clinging to the right way, may tell their offspring to pursue the truth.

[23].Surah Al-Muminun [The Believers]:Ayat 26-27

Ayat 26. [Nuh PBUH (Noah)] said: "O my Lord! Help me because they deny me."
Ayat 27. So We inspired him (saying): "Construct the ship under Our Eyes and under Our Revelation (guidance). Then, when Our Command comes, and the oven gushes forth water, take on board of each kind two (male and female), and your family, except those thereof against whom the Word has already gone forth. And address Me not in favour of those who have done wrong. Verily, they are to be drowned.
[Tafseer] of ayat 26. (Noah PBUH) said: "O my Lord! help me: for that they accuse me of falsehood!" in ayat 27. Allah inspired Nuh PBUH (with this message): "Construct the Ark within my sight and under my guidance: then when comes Allah's Command, and the fountains of the earth gush forth, take them on board pairs of every species, male and female, and thy family- except those of them against whom the Word has already gone forth: And address Me not in favour of the wrong-doers; for they shall be drowned (in the Flood).
Hazrat Ibn Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: We were talking about the Farewell Pilgrimage without knowing what was it when Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) was also present. He (PBUH) stood up and recited the Praise and Glorification of Allah. He then gave a detailed account of Ad-Dajjal and said, 'Every Prophet sent by Allah had warned his people against his mischief. Nuh (PBUH) )warned his nation and so did all the Prophets after him. If he (i.e., Ad-Dajjal) appears among you, his condition will not remain hidden from you. Your Rubb is not one-eyed, but Ad-Dajjal is. His right eye is protruding like a swollen grape. Listen, Allah has made your blood, and your properties as inviolable as of this day of yours (i.e., the Day of Sacrifice), in this city of yours (i.e., Makkah), in this month of yours (i.e., Dhul -Hijjah). Listen, have I conveyed Allah's Message to you?'' The people replied in affirmative. There upon he said, "O Allah, bear witness.'' And he repeated it thrice. He (PBUH) concluded: "Do not revert after me as infidels killing one another".
[Al-Bukhari Volume 4, Book 55, Number 553].
Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Muminun Ayat 26."[Nuh PBUH (Noah)] said: "O my Lord! Help me because they deny me" This Hadith brings out the following three points:
1. Some marks and signs of pseudo-Messiah (Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal) are mentioned to warn the believers against his mischief.
2. The lives and properties of Muslims are inviolable for each other. In other words, it means that each of them is a protector and guardian of the life, property and honour of the other.
3. Internal war among the Muslims is a great crime and can even lead to infidelity (Kufr). May Allah save us all from it.

[23].Surah Al-Muminun [The Believers]: Ayat 23-25

Ayat 23. And indeed Allah sent Nuh PBUH (Noah) to his people, and he said: "O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him (Islamic Monotheism). Will you not then be afraid (of Him i.e. of His Punishment because of worshipping others besides Him)?"
Ayat 24. But the chiefs of those who disbelieved among his people said: "He is no more than a human being like you, he seeks to make himself superior to you. Had Allah willed, He surely could have sent down angels; never did we hear such a thing among our fathers of old.
Ayat 25. "He is only a man in whom is madness, so wait for him a while."
[Tafseer] of Ayat 23. (Further, We sent a long line of prophets for your instruction). Allah sent Noah PBUH to his people: He said, "O my people! worship Allah. Ye have no other god but Him. Will ye not fear (Him)?" The material gifts having been mentioned, which we receive from a wise and kindly Providence, our attention is now directed to Allah's Providence in spiritual matters. He sent Teachers to instruct and guide us, and though they were mocked, rejected, and accused of falsehood and selfishness, they were protected by Allah, and Allah's Truth at length prevailed. "People" here is almost equivalent to "contemporaries". To fear Allah is to lead righteous lives and eschew evil. in Ayat 24. The chiefs of the Unbelievers among his people said: "He is no more than a man like yourselves: his wish is to assert his superiority over you: if Allah had wished (to send messengers), He could have sent down angels; never did we hear such a thing (as he says), among our ancestors of old." They attribute altogether wrong motives to him (such as they would have actuated themselves), in saying that he was trying to establish his own personal superiority over them by his preaching. Then they accuse him of falsehood in claiming to bring a message of Allah. "If, they say, "Allah had wished to send us messengers, He would have sent angels, not a man like ourselves and from among ourselves. Our ancestors did not worship One God: why should we?" in ayat 25. Tafseer (And some said): "He is only a man possessed: wait (and have patience) with him for a time." I construe this to be a speech of another group among them. They thought he was mad, and best left alone. His madness would run out, or he would come to an evil end.

Hazrat Abu Abdur Rehman Auf bin Malik Al-Ashjai (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Seven, eight or nine people, including myself, were with Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) on an occasion when he [SAWW](PBUH) remarked, "Would you pledge allegiance to Messenger of Allah?'' As we had taken oath of allegiance shortly before, we said, "We have already done so, O Messenger of Allah.'' He again asked, "Would you not pledge allegiance to Messenger of Allah?'' So we stretched out our hands and said, "We have already made our pledge with you, O Messenger of Allah, on what should we make a pledge with you?'' He said, "To worship Allah and not to associate anything with Him, to perform the five (daily) Salat and to obey.'' Then he added in a low tone, "And not to ask people for anything.'' Thereafter, I noticed that some of these people who were present did not ask anyone to pick up any thing for them if it fell from their hands.
[Muslim Book 05, Chapter 33, Hadith # 2270]
Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Muminun Ayat 23."people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him" Herein we find an approval of renewing the oath of loyalty; besides, there is also a ground for administering such oath in respect of the obedience and worship of Allah, and decent behaviour. What is more, we are also under obligation to observe all that the oath of fealty stands for.
