[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]: Ayat 026

Ayat 26. Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Leave me to kill Musa (Moses), and let him call his Lord (to stop me from killing him)! I fear that he may change your religion, or that he may cause mischief to appear in the land!"

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 26. Said Pharaoh: "Leave me to slay Moses; and let him call on his Lord! What I fear is lest he should change your religion, or lest he should cause mischief to appear in the land!" This is an episode that occurs when Moses, invested with his mission, confronts Pharaoh in his Court and preaches to him: see 20:49 and following verses; also 20:57 to 63. Some of Pharaoh's people did afterwards give up the worship of Pharaoh and of the Egyptian gods and believed "in the Lord of Aaron and Moses" and in fact suffered martyrdom for the Faith of Unity: 20:70-73.
Hazrat Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah image001.jpg[SAWW](PBUH) said, "When a Muslim plants a tree, whatever is eaten from it is charity from him and whatever is stolen is charity and whatever is subtracted from it is charity". [Muslim Book 010, Chapter 23, Hadith # 3764].

Another narration says: "If a Muslim plants a tree, or sows a field and men and beasts and birds eat from it, all of it is charity from him". [Muslim Book 010, Chapter 23, Hadith # 3766].

Lesson : This Hadith highlights the importance of gardening and agriculture. It is also one of the merits of these two occupations that if someone patiently bears the loss that he suffers due to pilferage or theft of their produce, he is rewarded for it.

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]: Ayat 025

Ayat 25. Then, when Musa PBUH brought them the Truth from Allah, they (Firaun’s and his Ministers) said: "Kill the sons of those who believe with him and let their women live", but the plots of disbelievers are nothing but errors!

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 25Now, when he came to them in Truth, from Allah, they said, "Slay the sons of those who believe with him, and keep alive their females," but the plots of Unbelievers (end) in nothing but errors (and delusions)! Verse 24 described the opposition of three types of Unfaith, which opposed Faith, in different ways, as described in the last note. Qarun, in his overweening insolence, may well have called Moses and Aaron "sorcerers telling lies" in the Sinai desert, as he despised priests and men of God, and might cast the Egyptian reproach in their teeth as a reminiscence. Here, in verse 25, we have an episode about the time of the birth of Moses: "them" and "they" refer to Pharaoh and his Court; the "coming" of Moses here refers to the time of his birth. On that construction, "with him", lower down in their speech would be elliptical, referring to "slay the sons", as if they had said, "Kill all Israelite male children: the unknown Prophet to be born would be amongst them: so kill them all with him." In verse 26 we again skip some years and recall an episode when Moses, having got his mission, stood in Pharaoh's Court, and some of the Egyptian Commonalty were almost ready to believe in him. That is, the Israelites, for they were the custodians of Allah's Faith then. For the slaughter of Israelite children by Pharaoh, see 27:4-6.

Hazrat Umar bin Al-Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg[SAWW](PBUH) said, "Verily, Allah elevates some people with this Qur'an and abases others.'' [Muslim Book 04, Chapter 138, Hadith # 1780]

Lesson: Only such people will be elevated who act upon the teachings of the Qur'an and abstain from what is forbidden by Allah. The Muslims of the early centuries of Islam were blessed with great honor by Allah because they loved and applied the Qur'an. Because of this meaningful attachment with the Qur'an, they made great achievements in religious and worldly spheres. Those who neglected the teachings of Islam will be disgraced and humiliated. May Allah guide and enable us to re-establish our contact with the Qur'an so that we can regain our past glory. Exaltation and humiliation mentioned in the Hadith is bound to happen in both this life and the Hereafter.

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]: Ayat 023-024

Ayat 23. And indeed Allah sent Musa PBUH (Moses) with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), and a manifest authority,
Ayat 24. To Fir'aun (Pharaoh), Haman and Karun (Korah), but they called (him): "A sorcerer, a liar!"

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 23. Of old We sent Moses PBUH, with Our Signs and an authority manifest, This is not the story of Moses himself, so much as an introduction to the story of the one just man who believed, in the court of Pharaoh: This Surah's title Al-Mumin ("The Believer") refers to him. Ayat 24. To Pharaoh, Haman, and Qarun; but they called (him)" a sorcerer telling lies!" Here are three types of Unfaith, each showing a different phase, and yet all united in opposition to the Truth and Mission of Moses. (1) Pharaoh is the type of arrogance, cruelty, and reliance on brute force; Cf. 28:38-39. (2) Haman was Pharaoh's minister (28:6; also 28:38): he was the type of a sycophant who would pander to the vanity of any man in power. (3) Karun excelled in his wealth, was selfish in its use, and overbearing to the poor (28:76-81). They all came to an evil end eventually.
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allahimage001.jpg[SAWW](PBUH) said,  "If anyone calls others to follow right guidance, his reward will be equivalent to those who follow him (in righteousness) without their reward being diminished in any respect, and if anyone invites others to follow error, the sin, will be equivalent to that of the people who follow him (in sinfulness) without their sins being diminished in any respect". [Muslim Book # 06, Chapter 34, Hadith # 6470].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mumin Ayat 23 “indeed Allah sent Musa PBUH (Moses) with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), and a manifest authority” Invitation' and `Call' stand to mean here that someone induces others to virtue or seduces to sin by means of his speech or action. We come to know from this Hadith that one who becomes a medium for either of them is given a reward or punishment respectively by Allah (SWT).

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]: Ayat 022

Ayat 22. That was because there came to them their Messengers with clear evidences, proofs and signs but they disbelieved (in them). So Allah seized them with punishment. Verily, He is All-Strong, Severe in punishment.

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 22. That was because there came to them theirmessengers with Clear (Signs), but they rejected them: So Allah called them to account: for He is Full of Strength, Strict in Punishment. But Allah in His Mercy always sends a Message of warning and good news through his messengers, and He gives His messengers Clear Signs and an authority that can be recognized. Among the Clear Signs are: (1) the pure and unselfish lives of the messengers; (2) the revelation of truth which they bring; (3) their influence on the course of events in their own and succeeding generations; etc. Some of these may be so remarkable that they merit the name of Miracles.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "If Allah afflicts punishment upon a nation, it befalls the whole population indiscriminately and then they will be resurrected and judged according to their deeds.'' [Al-Bukhari Book 09, Chapter 88, Hadith # 224]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mumin Ayat 22 “So Allah seized them with punishment. Verily, He is All-Strong, Severe in punishment” When Allah's punishment comes to pass, it does not distinguish between the upright and the wicked. However, the pious people will be saved from punishment after their death while the wicked ones will be punished in the Hell. May Allah save us from all types of punishments.

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]: Ayat 021

Ayat 21. Have they not travelled in the land and seen what was the end of those who were before them? They were superior to them in strength, and in the traces (which they left) in the land. But Allah seized them with punishment for their sins. And none had they to protect them from Allah.

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 21. Do they not travel through the earth and see whatwas the End of those before them? They were even superior to them in strength, and in the traces (they Have left) in the land: but Allah did call them to account for their sins, and none had they to defend them against Allah. Cf. 30:9. And several other similar passages. 30:9. we can learn from the history of previous nations. Many of them were more powerful, or have left finer and more imposing monuments and made a deeper impression on the world around them than any particular generation addressed. "Traces" in the text may be taken in that extended sense. And yet all this did not save them from the consequences of their sins. They were called to account and punished. None of the power or pomp or skill of which they boasted could for a moment ward off the punishment when it came in Allah's good time (Cf. 40:82).

Hazrat Ibn Umer (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: when Messenger of Allah image001.jpg[SAWW](PBUH), and his Companions reached Al-Hijr, the dwellings of the Thamud people, he admonished his Companions (saying), "Do not pass by these people who are being tormented, without weeping, lest the punishment should befall you as it had befallen them.'' [Al-Bukhari Book 04, Chapter 55, Hadith # 564].
Another narration is: Hazrat Ibn `Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) said: When the Messenger of Allah image001.jpg[SAWW](PBUH) passed near Al-Hijr, he said, "Do not enter without weeping, the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, lest the same chastisement should fall upon you as it had fallen upon them.'' Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) then covered his head and sped up until he crossed the valley of the tormented people.

Lesson: as mentioned above in Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mumin Ayat 21. Have they not travelled in the land and seen what was the end of those who were before them?” The Thamud were the people to whose guidance Allah sent Prophet Saleh PBUH. They lived between Al-Madinah and Syria. In 10 A.H. when the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) went to the Syrian border for the Tabuk expedition, he also passed through this ruined territory. This Hadith is related to the address which he gave to his Companions on the occasion. Here is an instruction that when we happen to pass through the territory of a nation destroyed in the past as a result of Divine wrath, we are advised to quicken one's pace. That is why we have been commanded to avoid the company of the corrupt and the wrongdoers, lest we meet their bad end, too. As the Qur'an says: "And incline not toward those who do wrong, lest the Fire should touch you.'' (11:113) May Allah saves us from it!

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]: Ayat 019-020

Ayat 19. Allah knows the fraud of the eyes, and all that the hearts and breasts conceal.
Ayat 20. And Allah judges with truth, while those to whom they invoke besides Him, cannot judge anything. Certainly, Allah! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 19 & 20. ((Allah)) knows of (the tricks) that deceive with the eyes, and all that the hearts (of men) conceal. Men may be taken in by tricks that deceive with the eyes, but Allah's perfect knowledge penetrates through all mysteries. "Deceive with the eyes" may mean several things: (1) a sleight of hand (literally or figuratively) may deceive in respect of the eyes of beholders, for the things that they see do not actually happen; (2) it may be the deceiver's own eyes that play false, because, for example, they show love when hatred is meant; or (3) it may be that the eyes of the beholder play him false, in that he sees things that he should not see, and thus sins with his eyes. Here we come into the region of evil motives and thoughts which may be concealed in the hearts, breast, or mind, but which are all perfectly known to Allah. Ayat 20. And Allah will judge with (justice and) Truth: but those whom (men) invoke besides Him, will not (be in a position) to judge at all. Verily it is Allah (alone) Who hears and sees (all things). If men build their hopes or their faith in anything except the Divine Grace, they will find themselves deserted. Any pretenses’ that they make will be known to Allah. On the other hand every single good act, or word, or motive, or aspiration of their will, will reach Allah's Throne of Mercy.

Hazrat Numan bin Bashir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, verily, there is a piece of flesh in the body, if it is healthy, the whole body is healthy, and if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt. Verily, it is the heart.'' [Muslim Book 10, Chapter 41, Hadith # 3882].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mumin Ayat 19. Allah knows the fraud of the eyes, and all that the hearts and breasts conceal”, important point underlying this Hadith concerns the heart. Its purity or impurity directly affects the human conduct in a good or bad way. It is, therefore, absolutely necessary to cleanse the heart of all wiles and impurities, and this is not possible without sound Faith and consciousness of Allah.

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]: Ayat 018

Ayat 18. And warn them (O Muhammad image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) of the Day that is drawing near (i.e. the Day of Resurrection), when the hearts will be choking the throats, and they can neither return them (hearts) to their chests nor can they throw them out. There will be no friend, nor an intercessor for the Zalimun(polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.), who could be given heed to.

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 18. Warn them of the Day that is (ever) drawing near, when the hearts will (come) right up to the Throats to choke (them); No intimate friend nor intercessor will the wrong-doers have, who could be listened to. Hearts will come right up to the Throats to choke them; an idiom implying that the whole of their life-functions will be choked up with terror. But a more subtle meaning emerges from further analysis. The heart (or the breast) is the seat of affection, emotion, and every kind of feeling, such as terror; pain, despair, etc. These things will as it were overflow right up to the throat and choke it. The throat is the vehicle for the voice; their voice will be choked, and they will be able to say nothing. The throat is the channel for food, which goes to the stomach and maintains a healthy functioning of life; the choking means that the healthy functioning will stop, and there will be nothing but woe. In that enforcement of personal responsibility, what sympathy or intercession can the wrongdoers get? Is Hamim in any way connected with the Abbreviated Letters Ha Mim attached to this Surah?
Hazrat Anas bin Malik (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah image001.jpg[SAWW](PBUH) said, "Among the inmates of Hell, a person who had led the most luxurious life in this world will be brought up on the Day of Resurrection and dipped in the Fire and will be asked: `O son of Adam! Did you ever experience any comfort? Did you happen to get any luxury?' He will reply: `By Allah, no, my Rubb.' And then one of the people of Jannah who had experienced extreme misery in the life of this world will be dipped in Jannah. Then he will be asked: `O son of Adam! Did you ever experience any misery? Did you ever encounter difficulty?' He will say: "By Allah, no my Rubb, I neither experienced misery nor passed through hardship". [Muslim Book 39, Chapter 11, Hadith # 6738].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mumin Ayat 18. “There will be no friend, nor an intercessor for the Zalimun” This Hadith also induces one to work for the life of the Hereafter, as the amenities of this world which one strives hard to attain, and for which one violates the injunctions of Shari`ah, will be forgotten with a glimpse of the Hell-fire. Therefore, the sensible course is that one should adopt a way of life which is full of true faith and good deeds so that one becomes eligible for the eternal blessings and joys of the life of the Hereafter.

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]: Ayat 17

Ayat 17. This Day shall every person be recompensed for what he earned. No injustice (shall be done to anybody). Truly, Allah is Swift in reckoning.

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 17. That Day will every soul be requited for what it earned; no injustice will there be that Day, for Allah is Swift in taking account. Swift in several senses: (1) the time of the present life or of the interval before Judgment, i.e., before the restoration of true values, is so short as compared to Eternity, that it may be counted as negligible: in the next verse the Day is characterized as "(ever) drawing near"; (2) in spite of the great concourse of souls to be judged, the process of Judgment will be almost instantaneous, "in the twinkling of an eye" (16:77), because everything is already known to Allah; and yet not the least injustice will be done.

Hazrat Abu Shuraih Khuwailid bin `Amr Al-Khuza'i (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg[SAWW](PBUH) said, "O Allah, I declare inviolable the rights of two weak ones: the orphans and women". [Sunan' An-Nasai Hadith # 9150]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mumin Ayat 17.” Truly, Allah is Swift in reckoning” The poor are generally treated callously in human society. Women and orphans are regular victims of this cruelty. They are deprived of their share in property to which they are entitled under the Islamic law. In some cases their properties are usurped and they are maltreated at the hands of usurpers. The Prophet (PBUH) has threatened them with serious consequences to prevent the Muslims from committing such injustice. The attitude of Muslims and the teachings of Islam in this matter are two different things. How can Islam be blamed for the attitude of Muslims? It is time Muslims should understand that Islam is getting a bad name because of their bad conduct. As a result of this they are committing a double crime. On the one hand, they are guilty of usurping others of their legitimate rights and perpetrating cruelties, and on the other, disgracing their religion. In other words, rather than preaching Islam they are creating obstacles in the way of people joining the fold of Islam. May Allah grant us guidance to follow the right path. Amen!

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]: Ayat 016

Ayat 16. The Day (of Resurrection) when they will (all) come out, nothing of them will be hidden from Allah. (and Allah will ask) Whose is the kingdom this Day? (whole galaxy will reply to His Question): It is Allah’s the One, the Irresistible!

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 16. The Day whereon they will (all) come forth: not a single thing concerning them is hidden from Allah. Whose will be the dominion that Day?" That of Allah, the One the Irresistible! The Kingdom of Allah—of Justice, Truth, and Righteousness-will then be fully established. Evil can then no more come into competition with Good, even in the subjective consciousness of man.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: When it was evening, the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) used to supplicate: "Amsaina wa amsal-mulku lillah, wal-hamdu lillah. La `ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu (We have entered upon evening and the whole kingdom of Allah, too, has entered upon evening. Praise is due to Allah. There is none who has the right to be worshiped but Allah, the One who has no partner with Him).'' He (the narrator) said: I think that he [SAWW](PBUH) used to follow the recitation with these words: "Lahul-mulku, wa lahul-hamdu, wa Huwa `ala kulli shi'in Qadir. Rabbi as'aluka khaira ma fi hadhihil-lailati, wa khaira ma ba`daha; wa a`udhu bika min sharri ma fi hadhihil-lailati, wa sharri ma ba`daha; Rabbi a`udhu bika minal-kasali, wa su'il-kibari; Rabbi a`udhu bika min `adhabin fin-nari, wa `adhabin fil-qabri (His is the sovereignty and to Him is all praise due, and He is Omnipotent. My Rubb, I beg of you good that lies in this night and good that follows it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil that lies in this night and from the evil of that which follows it. My Rubb! I seek refuge in You from lethargy and the misery of old age. O Allah! I seek Your Protection from the torment of Hell-fire and the punishment of the grave).'' When it was morning, he [SAWW](PBUH) would recite the same, replacing the words: "We have entered upon evening and the whole kingdom of Allah, too, has entered upon evening'' with "We have entered upon morning and the whole kingdom of Allah entered upon morning.'' (Replace the words "Amsaina, amsa, hadhihil-lailati, ma ba`daha with Asbahna, asbaha, hadhal-yaumi, ma ba`dahu, respectively).
[Muslim Book 35, Chapter17, Hadith # 6570].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mumin Ayat 16. “Whose is the kingdom this Day? (whole galaxy will reply to His Question): It is Allah’s the One, the Irresistible! “ It is desirable to recite the invocations cited in the Hadith in the morning and the evening and also when one goes to bed and awakes. The purpose is that the concept of Allah's Providence and Divinity remains alive all the time in one's mind. With these words one seeks Allah's Protection in life and the Hereafter from things which are harmful. One also begs for his safety and guidance in this life and the Hereafter. This Hadith fully expresses one's recognition of Allah's Godhood and Lordship.
