[45]. Surah Al-Jathiyah [The Kneeling]: Ayat 010

Ayat 10. In front of them there is Hell, and that which they have earned will be of no profit to them, nor (will be of any profit to them) those whom they have taken as Auliya' (protectors, helpers, etc.) besides Allah. And theirs will be a great torment.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Jathiyah Ayat 10. In front of them is Hell: and of no profit to them is anything they may have earned, nor any protectors they may have taken to themselves besides Allah. For them is a tremendous Penalty. (3) In verse 10 the sinner has piled up all the good things of this life, and thinks he has got plenty of helpers and protectors but all these things are of no use. On the contrary, his Penalty will be "tremendous", to correspond with the great pains which he has taken to multiply the gods of his worship.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Ash-Shikhkhir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I came to the Messenger of Allah cid:image004.gif@01D15B53.08954AF0[SAWW](PBUH) while he was reciting (Surat At-Takathur 102): "The mutual rivalry (for hoarding worldly things) preoccupy you. (After reciting) Messenger of Allah cid:image004.gif@01D15B53.08954AF0[SAWW](PBUH) said, "Son of Adam says: `My wealth, my wealth.' Do you own of your wealth other than what you eat and consume, and what you wear and wear out, or what you give in Sadaqah (charity) (to those who deserve it), and that what you will have in stock for yourself.''
[Muslim Hadith Book # 01, Chapter # 42 , Hadith  # 7061]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Jathiyah Ayat 10. “and that which they have earned will be of no profit to them, nor (will be of any profit to them)" This Hadith enjoins that if a person is given wealth, he should spend it in the ways liked by Allah because it is this Sadaqah which will be a valuable treasure in the Afterlife. Whatever else he consumes in this world, will finish or rot in this world and will be of no avail in Hereafter.

[45]. Surah Al-Jathiyah [The Kneeling]: Ayat 009

Ayat 9. And when he (the arrogant) learns something of Our Verses (this Qur’an), he makes them a jest. For such there will be a humiliating torment.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Jathiyah Ayat 9. And when he learns something of Our Signs, he takes them in jest: for such there will be a humiliating Penalty. Note that in each of the verses 8-11 the Penalty is characterized by a certain description, which accords with the crime. (1) In verse 8, the man is arrogant about the Signs of Allah's love and care all around him, and his Penalty is "grievous". (2) In verse 9, he ridicules Allah's Signs, and his Penalty is "humiliating": he makes himself a ridiculous fool. (3) and (4) are described in next Ayats.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Al Aas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) as saying: Verily, the hearts of all the sons of Adam are between the two fingers out of the fingers of the Compassionate Lord as one heart. He turns that to any (direction) He likes. Then Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said : "0 Allah, the Turner of the hearts, turn our hearts to Thine obedience". [Muslim Book 33, Chapter 03, Hadith # 6418].

Lesson: Obedience ( and Guidance) here means guidance at every turn of life and steadfastness on the path of truth. Fear of Allah is the greatest means of piety and strongest defense against sins.

[45]. Surah Al-Jathiyah [The Kneeling]: Ayat 007-008

Ayat 7. Woe to every sinful liar,
Ayat 8. Who hears the Verses of Allah (being) recited to him, yet persists with pride as if he heard them not. So announce to him a painful torment!

Tafseer of Surah Al-Jathiyah Ayat 7 and 8. Woe to each sinful dealer in Falsehoods:  A soul so dead, as described in the last note, is indeed wretched. It will resort to falsehoods, in worship, in conduct, and in its attitude towards Allah. It will be obstinate, and pretend to be "above such things'. It will hear the most beautiful Message but not profit by it. The loss or punishment is its own, and grievous it is! Ayat 8. He hears the Signs of Allah rehearsed to him, yet is obstinate and lofty, as if he had not heard them: then announce to him a Penalty Grievous!

Hazrat Ibn Masood (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Truth leads to piety and piety leads to Jannah. A man persists in speaking the truth till he is enrolled with Allah as a truthful. Falsehood leads to vice and vice leads to the Fire (Hell), and a person persists on telling lies until he is enrolled as a liar".'  [Muslim Book 32, Chapter 26, Hadith # 6306].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Jathiyah Ayat 7. Woe to every sinful liar,” Siddiq (veracious) and Kadhdhab (liar) both are adjectives of intensive degree. That is to say, the words stand respectively for someone whose truth has become his second nature; and in the opposite case, one is a liar who is in the habit of telling lies. As one acquires a reputation in this world for his good or bad deeds similar is his position before Allah. One who is ranked among the truthful with Him is entitled to reward, and if one is a liar, he has to suffer retribution for it. This Hadith provides incentive for truthfulness because it is a source of every good deed and contains a warning against lying as it gives rise to all kinds of mischief.

[45]. Surah Al-Jathiyah [The Kneeling]: Ayat 006

Ayat 6. These are the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, revelations, the Quran) of Allah, which We recite to you with truth. Then in which speech after Allah and His Ayat will they believe?

Tafseer of Surah Al-Jathiyah Ayat 6. If there are any to whom the Signs from Nature, from within their own heart and conscience, and from the voice of Revelation, are not enough to convince them, what possible kind of exposition will they accept?

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said,  "Verily, Allah likes three things for you and disapproves three things for you. He likes that you should worship Him Alone, not to associate anything with Him (in worship) and to hold fast to the Rope of Allah and not to be divided among yourselves; and He disapproves for you irrelevant talk, persistent questioning and the squandering of the wealth.''
[Muslim Book 018, Chapter 03, Hadith # 4255].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Jathiyah Ayat 06. “Then in which speech after Allah and His Ayat will they believe? Beside stressing Tauhid, holding fast to the Rope of Allah and unity (which are greatly liked by Allah), this Hadith forbids unnecessary debate, hair-splitting and extravagance as all the three are disliked by Allah. Wealth has a great importance in man's life since it is the very source of sustenance and basis of his livelihood, its wastage is akin to cutting the branch of the tree on which one is sitting.

[45]. Surah Al-Jathiyah [The Kneeling]: Ayat 005

Ayat 5. And in the alternation of night and day, and the provision (rain) that Allah sends down from the sky, and revives therewith the earth after its death, and in the turning about of the winds (i.e. sometimes towards the east or north, and sometimes towards the south or west etc., sometimes bringing glad tidings of rain etc., and sometimes bringing the torment), are signs for a people who understand.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Jathiyah Ayat 5. These are our daily experiences from external things, but they affect us and our lives intimately: here are questions of deductions "for those that are wise." "Sustenance" is almost equivalent here to "rain" itself, and its revival of a dead earth, which refer symbolically to Revelation and it’s putting new life into a dead soul. Similarly the alternation of Night and Day, and the change of the winds, besides being Signs as wonderful phenomena of Nature, refer to spiritual ignorance and knowledge, rest and activity, and the constant beneficent changes that are going on in the world, making for the spread of the blessing of Allah's Revelation.

Hazrat Abu Musa (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allahimage001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "The similitude of guidance and knowledge with which Allah has sent me is like a rain which has fallen on some ground. A fertile part of earth has absorbed water and brought forth much grass and herbs. Another part, which is solid, held the water and Allah benefits men thereby, who drank and gave others to drink, and used it for irrigation. But some of it has fallen on a portion of sandy land which neither retains the water nor produces herbage. Such is the likeness of the man who understands the religion of Allah and who gets benefit of what Allah has sent me with; he learns and teaches others. It is also the likeness of the man who neither raises his head on that account (meaning he does not benefit from what the Prophet image001.jpg[SAWW](PBUH) was sent with) nor accepts Allah's Guidance with which I am sent".  [Al-Bukhari Book 01, Chapter 03, Hadith # 079]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Jathiyah Ayat 5. “the provision (rain) that Allah sends down from the sky, and revives therewith the earth after its death In this Hadith the guidance and knowledge which was sent to mankind through the Prophet (PBUH) is compared to the rain which is beneficial, because this knowledge resuscitates the dead hearts as does the rain to a barren land. One who makes use of this knowledge is likened to a good soil, and one who acquires this knowledge and imparts it to others but does not put it into practice is considered akin to a hard land which holds water and other people utilize it. A person who neither learns it nor acts upon it is like a desolate land which neither holds water nor produces anything. Such a person is the worst of all because he neither himself benefits from it nor lets others make use of it. This Hadith induces one to acquire knowledge, impart it to others, put it into actual practice and warns people from neglecting this duty.

[45]. Surah Al-Jathiyah [The Kneeling]: Ayat 004

Ayat 4. And in your creation, and what He scattered (through the earth) of moving (living) creatures are signs for people who have Faith with certainty.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Jathiyah Ayat 4. And in the creation of yourselves and the fact that animals are scattered (through the earth), are Signs for those of assured Faith. (2) These Signs are in our own nature and in the animals we meet with every day; here we have certainty within human limits: these are "for those of assured Faith."

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH), the truthful and the receiver of the truth informed us, saying, "The creation of you (humans) is gathered in the form of semen in the womb of your mother for forty days, then it becomes a clinging thing in similar (period), then it becomes a lump of flesh like that, then Allah sends an angel who breathes the life into it; and (the angel) is commanded to record four things about it: Its provision, its term of life (in this world), its conduct; and whether it will be happy or miserable. By the One besides Whom there is no true god! Verily, one of you would perform the actions of the dwellers of Jannah until there is only one cubit between him and it (Jannah), when what is foreordained would come to pass and he would perform the actions of the inmates of Hell until he enter it. And one of you would perform the actions of the inmates of Hell, until there is only one cubit between him and Hell. Then he would perform the acts of the dwellers of Jannah until he would enter it.''  [Muslim Book 33, Chapter 01, Hadith # 6930].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Jathiyah Ayat 4. And in your creation, and what He scattered (through the earth) of moving (living) creatures”  This Hadith deals with the problem of fate in which Faith is essential. What it means is that Almighty Allah already knows about every person, whether he will be pious or impious, whether he will go to Jannah or Hell. He has already recorded all this. But it does not mean that man is absolutely helpless and is deprived of will and power, as is believed by some deviant sects who have gone astray. Fate is in fact a manifestation of the Knowledge of Allah and it has nothing to do with the will and intention of a person. Allah has not created man as a helpless creature, but has endowed him with the freedom of will and action, because in the absence of these two qualities, there would be no justification for his trial. He could only be put to test if he was granted not only the ability to choose between good and evil but also the freedom to act. For this purpose, Almighty Allah, has clearly indicated to man both the paths and granted him freedom to choose whichever he likes. He has also told him the ultimate end of each. The Noble Qur'an says: "Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful". {76}Surah Al-Insan [Man]: Ayat 3) "Then whosoever wills, let him believe; and whosoever wills, let him disbelieve". {18} Surah Al-Kahf [The Cave] : Ayat 29). But by mentioning this Hadith in the chapter relating to the fear of Allah, Imam An-Nawawi has warned that we should be fearful of Allah, pray for His Help, and an auspicious end of our life. He has advised us to adopt whatever means are available to us. In other words, we should make Faith and piety a way of life because one can find the means and resources according to one's capacity. Since nobody knows the result of his endeavors, one should leave it to Allah and rest assured that He Who has created him with a purpose will also create the ways and means to attain it. He who adopts piety, the ways to piety will open for him; and he who adopts evil, the ways to evil will open for him. A Muslim should never go towards evil at any stage of his life, lest his life comes to an end suddenly and he is deprived of the reward of all the good deeds he has done during his life and consequently he is consigned to Hell rather than Jannah. May Allah save us from a bad end and such actions which lead one to Hell.

[45]. Surah Al-Jathiyah [The Kneeling]: Ayat 01-03

Ayat 1. Hâ-Mîm. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur’an and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings].
Ayat 2. The revelation of the Book (this Qur’an) is from Allah, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
Ayat 3. Verily, in the heavens and the earth are signs for the believers.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Jathiyah Ayat 1 to 3. Ha Mim. 2. This verse is the same as 40:2. except that "wisdom" is here substituted in the last line for "Knowledge". This is appropriate, as in this Surah we are dealing with the folly of those who reject Allah and His Signs, while S. 40 dealt with the individual soul's witness to Faith and Virtue.

3. Verses 3-5 deal with some of the points in the noble argument in 2:164, but again there are differences on account of the different context. Note that here the argument is divided into three parts, one in each verse. (1) In verse 3 we are dealing with big Signs external to ourselves, some of which are far beyond our personal experiences: for diem we require Faith: they are Signs "for those who believe."

Hazrat Ibn `Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) used to say when he was in distress: "La ilaha illallahul-Azimul-Halim. La ilaha illallahu Rabbul-`Arshil-`Azim. La ilaha illallahu Rabbus-samawati, WA Rabbul-ardi, WA Rabbul-`Arshil-Karim. (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah the Incomparably Great, the Compassionate. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah the Rubb of the Mighty Throne. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah the Rubb of the heavens, the Rubb of the earth, and the Rubb of the Honorable Throne).'' [Al-Bukhari Book 08, Chapter 75, Hadith # 357]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Jathiyah Ayat 3. Verily, in the heavens and the earth are signs for the believersThe only medicine in a time of distress is the remembrance of Allah Whose Help alone should be sought. This Dua contains words which glorify Allah and exalt Him far above all else. It is desirable to recite these words when one is in distress as this is exactly what the Prophet (PBUH) used to recite in such situations.

[44]. Surah Ad-Dukhan [The Smoke]: Ayat 058-059

Ayat 58. Certainly, We have made this (Qur’an) easy (O Muhammad image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) in your tongue, in order that they may remember.
Ayat 59. Wait then (O Muhammad image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH)(for torment and wrath of Allah on disbelievers); Verily, they (Pagans of Makkah too) are waiting.

Tafseer of Surah Ad-Dukhan Ayat 58 and 59. Easy: not only to understand, being in the Arabic tongue; but mellifluous, whose rhythm carries off our spirits to a higher spiritual plane. In another sense, it is difficult; for to get its deepest meaning, we shall have to strive hard, as the contents of this Surah alone will show.

Hazrat Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "When an infidel accomplishes any good deed, he is rewarded for it in this world; and in the case of a Muslim, Allah stores up his good acts for him in the Hereafter and provides him with subsistence in this life due to his obedience.''
[Muslim Book 39, Chapter 11, Hadith # 6739]
Another narration is: Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW] (PBUH) said, "Allah does not wrong a believer a good deed because he is given blessings for it in this world and will be rewarded for it in the Hereafter. But the infidel is given in the world the reward for good deeds, he has performed for the sake of Allah and when he comes to the Hereafter, there is no good deed for which he can be rewarded". [Muslim Book 39, Chapter 11, Hadith # 6740]

Lesson:  The infidels also do in this world many works which are for public welfare, or which come under the category of good deeds. Almighty Allah gives them reward for such good deeds in this world in the form of wealth, sound health, or saving them from some trouble, because Belief is precondition for reward in the Hereafter. Since an infidel is deprived of it, he will also be deprived of their reward in the Hereafter. Thus, we learn that Belief constitutes the basis of every action and is a precondition for the acceptance of any good deed by Allah.

[44]. Surah Ad-Dukhan [The Smoke]: Ayat 055-057

Ayat 55. They will call therein for every kind of fruit in peace and security;
Ayat 56. They will never taste death therein except the first death (of this world), and He will save them from the torment of the blazing Fire,
Ayat 57. As a Bounty from your Lord! That will be the supreme success!

Tafseer of Surah Ad-Dukhan Ayat 55. There can they call for every kind of fruit in peace and security; The metaphorical signification is explained in 43:73. Ayat 56. Nor will they there taste Death, except the first death; and He will preserve them from the Penalty of the Blazing Fire. First Death: the ordinary natural death from this life, which brought them to the Garden of Felicity : there will be no further death after that. Cf. 37:59. In Islam we are taught that salvation is not possible of our unaided efforts. Certainly, striving on our part is an indispensable condition: but it is the Mercy of Allah which comes to our help and keeps us from the Fire of final Punishment. This is mentioned last as the foundation on which is built our eternal felicity and our positive spiritual joys. Ayat 57. As a Bounty from thy Lord! that will be the supreme achievement! This is our idea of Salvation: the negative avoidance of all the consequences of evil, and the positive attainment of all—and more than all—that our hearts could possibly desire. For Allah's Bounty outstrips anything that our eyes have seen, or our ears have heard of, or our imagination can conceive. (Cf. 4:13).

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said,  "Follow the Right Path of Faith strictly, and be steadfast; and keep in mind that none of you can achieve salvation through his (good) actions.'' Someone asked, "Not even you, O Messenger of Allah?'' He image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Not even me, unless Allah grants me His Mercy and Grace".  [Muslim Book 39, Chapter 15, Hadith # 6762].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Ad-Dukhan Ayat 57. As a Bounty from your Lord! That will be the supreme success! This Hadith tells us that although the importance of Faith and its practice is beyond any shadow of doubt, because this is the only way to attain His Favors and Blessings, but one should not entirely depend upon practice only because any shortcoming (which one does not even know) can ruin a good deed. It is, therefore, essential that we also pray that our good deeds are accepted by Allah and that He grants us His Infinite Mercy and sincerity because even the greatest noble deed is invalid without it.

[44]. Surah Ad-Dukhan [The Smoke]: Ayat 051-054

Ayat 51. Verily! The Muttaqun (pious), will be in place of Security (Paradise).
Ayat 52. Among Gardens and Springs;
Ayat 53. Dressed in fine silk and (also) in thick silk, facing each other,
Ayat 54. So (it will be), and We shall marry them to Houris (female fair ones) with wide, lovely eyes.

Tafseer of Surah Ad-Dukhan Ayat 51 to 54. There will be no uncertainty, as on this earth; no danger of discontinuance; no possibility of their satisfaction being terminated? Ayat 52. Among Gardens and Springs; Ayat 53. Dressed in fine silk and in rich brocade, they will face each other; Cf. 18:31. Everything will be open and in social companionship: for all the petty feelings of jealousy or exclusiveness will have passed away. Ayat 54. So; and We shall join them to Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes. The Companions, like the scene, the dress, the outlook, and the fruit, will be beautiful. There will be life, but free from all earthly grossness. The women as well as the men of this life will attain to this indescribable bliss. Hur implies the following ideas: (1) purity; possibly the word Hawariyun, as applied to the first Disciples of Jesus, is connected with this root; (2) beauty, especially of eyes, where the intense white of the eyeballs stands out against the intense black of the pupil, thus giving the appearance of luster, and intense feeling: as opposed to dullness or
want of expression; and (3) truth and good will.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allahimage001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said,  "Allah, the Exalted, has said: `I have prepared for my righteous slaves what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and the mind of no man has conceived.' If you wish, recite: `No person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do.''' (32:17) [Al-Bukhari Vol.6, Chapter 60, Hadith # 302].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Ad-Dukhan Ayat 51. Verily! The Muttaqun (pious), will be in place of Security (Paradise)” About the gifts and pleasures of Jannah, here a Hadith has been stated in the Words of Allah. The subject matter is confirmed from the Verse of the Qur'an given in the text of the Hadith.
