[29].Surah Al-Ankabut [The Spider]: Ayat 67

Ayat 67. Have they not seen that We have made (Makkah) a sanctuary secure, and that men are being snatched away from all around them? Then do they believe in Batil (falsehood - polytheism, idols and all deities other than Allah), and deny (become ingrate for) the Graces of Allah?

Tafseer of Surah Al-Ankabut (The Spider) Ayat 67. Do they not then see that We have made a sanctuary secure, and that men are being snatched away from all around them? Then, do they believe in that which is vain, and reject the Grace of Allah. If they want evidences of their folly in the phenomenal world itself, they will see sacred Sanctuaries where Allah's Truth abides safely in the midst of the Deluge of broken hopes, disappointed ambitions and unfulfilled plans in the world around. The immediate reference was to the Sanctuary of Makkah and the gradual progress of Islam in the districts surrounding the Quraysh in the midst of the trying Makkan period. But the general application holds good for all times and places.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allahimage001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "O people! Allah is Pure and, therefore, accepts only that which is pure. Allah has commanded the believers as He has commanded His Messengers by saying: `O Messengers! Eat of the good things, and do good deeds.' (23:51) And He said: `O you who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism)! Eat of the lawful things that We have provided you...''' (2:172). Then he image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) made a mention of the person who travels for a long period of time, his hair are disheveled and covered with dust. He lifts his hand towards the sky and thus makes the supplication: `My Rubb! My Rubb!' But his food is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, his clothes are unlawful and his nourishment is unlawful, how can, then his supplication be accepted?''
[Muslim Hadith # 2214].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al- Ankabut Ayat 67. “and deny (become ingrate for) the Graces of Allah?” and Surah Al-Naml Ayat 55. “Nay, but you are a people who behave senselessly” This Hadith shows the value of the honest earning, for the grant of prayer, honest earning is essential. Allah accepts charity only if it has been earned in an honest way. Moreover, before any pious action, honest earning for living is essential; otherwise good actions will also go waste.

[29].Surah Al-Ankabut [The Spider]: Ayat 65-66

Ayat 65. And when they embark on a ship, they invoke Allah, making their Faith pure for Him only, but when He brings them safely to land, behold, they give a share of their worship to others.
Ayat 66. So that they become ingrate for that which We have given them, and that they take their enjoyment (as a warning and a threat), but they will come to know.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Ankabut (The Spider) Ayat 65. Now, if they embark on a boat, they call on Allah, making their devotion sincerely (and exclusively) to Him; but when He has delivered them safely to (dry) land, behold, they give a share (of their worship to others)!- Cf. 7:29 , where I have slightly varied the English phrase according to the context. It was shown in the last verse that the life of this world is fleeting, and that the true life—that which matters—is the Life in the Hereafter. In contrast with this inner reality is now shown the shortsighted folly of man. When he faces the physical dangers of the sea, which are but an incident in the phenomenal world, he actually and sincerely seeks the help of Allah; but when he is safely back on land, he forgets the Realities. Plunges into the pleasures and vanities of fleeting phenomena, and his devotion, which should be given exclusively to Allah, is shared by idols and vanities of his own imagination. 66. Disdaining ungratefully Our gifts, and giving themselves up to (worldly) enjoyment! But soon will they know. Such folly results in the virtual rejection (even though it may not be express) of Allah and His Grace. It plunges man into the pleasures and vanities that merely delude and are bound to pass away. This delusion, however, will come to an end when the true Reality of the Hereafter will shine forth in its entire splendor.
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allahimage001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said,  "He who takes an oath and involuntarily says: `By Al-Lat and Al-`Uzza' should at once affirm: `La ilaha illallah (there is no true god except Allah)', and he who says to his companion: `Come let's gamble' should make expiation by giving something in charity.'' [Al-Bukhari Hadith # 4860 and Muslim Hadith # 1647].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al- Ankabut Ayat 65 “they invoke Allah, making their Faith pure for Him only” and Surah Al-Araaf Ayat 197. "And those whom you call upon besides Him (Allah)" Al-Lat and Al-`Uzza were the idols of the polytheists of Arabia. To take oath or swear by them or by anything else besides Allah is an act of disbelief which takes one out of the fold of religion.

[29].Surah Al-Ankabut [The Spider]: Ayat 64

Ayat 64. And this life of the world is only amusement and play! Verily, the home of the Hereafter, that is the life indeed (i.e. the eternal life that will never end), if they but knew.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Ankabut (The Spider) Ayat 64. What is the life of this world but amusement and play? but verily the Home in the Hereafter,-that is life indeed, if they but knew. Cf. 6:32 . Amusement and play have no lasting significance except as preparing us for the serious work of life. So this life is but an interlude, a preparation for the real Life, which is in the Hereafter. This world's vanities are therefore to be taken for what they are worth; but they are not to be allowed to deflect our minds from the requirements of the inner life that really matters.
Hazrat Shaddad bin Aus (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "A wise man is the one who calls himself to account (and refrains from doing evil deeds) and does noble deeds to benefit him after death; and the foolish person is the one who subdues himself to his temptations and desires and seeks from Allah the fulfillment of his vain desires". [At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 2459]

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al- Ankabut Ayat 64. “this life of the world is only amusement and play” This Hadith highlights the importance of the accountability of one's self. Mere desires which are not coupled with practical efforts are of no avail because Allah grants reward on good deeds and not on yearnings and desires which are not supported by noble actions.

[29].Surah Al-Ankabut [The Spider]: Ayat 63

Ayat 63. If you were to ask them: "Who sends down water (rain) from the sky, and gives life therewith to the earth after its death?" They will surely reply: "Allah." Say: "All the praises and thanks be to Allah!" Nay! Most of them have no sense.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Ankabut (The Spider) Ayat 63. And if indeed thou ask them who it is that sends down rain from the sky, and gives life therewith to the earth after its death, they will certainly reply, "(Allah)!" Say, "Praise be to Allah." But most of them understand not. the point was that there is a certain type of man that realizes the power of Allah, but yet goes after false ideas and false worship. Here the point is that there is another type of man to whom the goodness of Allah is made clear by rain and the gifts of nature and who realizes the daily, seasonal, and secular changes which evidence Allah's goodness in giving us life (physical and spiritual) and reviving us after we seem to die,-and who yet fails to draw the right conclusion from it and to make his own life true and beautiful, so that when his period of probation in this transitory life is ended, he can enter into his eternal heritage. Having come so far such men fail at the crucial stage. At that stage they ought to have praised and glorified Allah, and accepted His Grace and Light, but they show their want of true understanding by failing to profit by Allah's gifts.
Hazrat Abu Musa (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allahimage001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "The similitude of guidance and knowledge with which Allah has sent me is like a rain which has fallen on some ground. A fertile part of earth has absorbed water and brought forth much grass and herbs. Another part, which is solid, held the water and Allah benefits men thereby, who drank and gave others to drink, and used it for irrigation. But some of it has fallen on a portion of sandy land which neither retains the water nor produces herbage. Such is the likeness of the man who understands the religion of Allah and who gets benefit of what Allah has sent me with; he learns and teaches others. It is also the likeness of the man who neither raises his head on that account (meaning he does not benefit from what the Prophet image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) was sent with) nor accepts Allah's Guidance with which I am sent".  [Al-Bukhari Book 01, Chapter 03, Hadith # 079]

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al- Ankabut Ayat 63. “"Who sends down water (rain) from the sky, and gives life therewith to the earth after its death” In this Hadith the guidance and knowledge which was sent to mankind through the Prophet (PBUH) is compared to the rain which is beneficial, because this knowledge resuscitates the dead hearts as does the rain to a barren land. One who makes use of this knowledge is likened to a good soil, and one who acquires this knowledge and imparts it to others but does not put it into practice is considered akin to a hard land which holds water and other people utilize it. A person who neither learns it nor acts upon it is like a desolate land which neither holds water nor produces anything. Such a person is the worst of all because he neither himself benefits from it nor lets others make use of it. This Hadith induces one to acquire knowledge, impart it to others, put it into actual practice and warns people from neglecting this duty.

[29].Surah Al-Ankabut [The Spider]: Ayat 62

Ayat 62. Allah enlarges the provision for whom He wills of His slaves, and straitens it for whom (He wills). Verily, Allah is the All Knower of everything.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Ankabut (The Spider) Ayat 62. Allah enlarges the sustenance (which He gives) to whichever of His servants He pleases; and He (similarly) grants by (strict) measure, (as He pleases): for Allah has full knowledge of all things. Unequal gifts are not a sign of chaos in Allah's universe. Allah provides for all according to their real needs and their most suitable requirement, according to His perfect knowledge and understanding of His creatures.
Hazrat Ibn Umar (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allahimage001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "All of you are guardians and are responsible for your subjects. The ruler is a guardian of his subjects, the man is a guardian of his family, the woman is a guardian and is responsible for her husband's house and his offspring; and so all of you are guardians and are responsible for your subjects.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al- Ankabut Ayat 62. “Allah enlarges the provision for whom He wills” This Hadith ordains every individual in society, whether he is a ruler or ruled citizen or even a woman who leads her life within the four walls of her house, to perform his duties within his own sphere. Not only that, every person has been made responsible to reform the state of affairs in his control and establish equity and justice because he will be held accountable for any negligence on his part in this respect.

[29].Surah Al-Ankabut [The Spider]: Ayat 61

Ayat 61. If you were to ask them: "Who has created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon?" They will surely reply: "Allah." How then are they deviating (as polytheists and disbelievers)?

Tafseer of Surah Al-Ankabut (The Spider) Ayat 61. If indeed thou ask them who has created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon (to his Law), they will certainly reply, "(Allah)". How are they then deluded away (from the truth)?  "Them" in both passages refers to the sort of inconsistent men who acknowledge the power of Allah, but are deluded by false notions into disobedience of Allah's Law and disregard of Allah's Message (see also 31:25, 43:9, and 43:11). 13:2, and 23:85. The perfect order and law of Allah's universe should be Signs to man's intelligence to get his own will into tune with Allah's Will; for only so can he hope to attain his full development.
Hazrat Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Angels were created from light, jinns were created from a smokeless flame of fire, and `Adam was created from that which you have been told (i.e., sounding clay like the clay of pottery).''
[Muslim Book 42, Chapter 12, Hadith # 7134].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al- Ankabut Ayat 61. “ask them: "Who has created the heavens and the earth” The angels are the creation of Allah which He created from light. Their bodies are so subtle that they can assume any form they like. The jinn are also an imperceptible creation of Allah. They have also been bestowed with such powers as are not possessed by humans. Satan also belongs to the jinn. Man has been created from sounding clay. The Hadith states the Great and the Perfect Powers of Allah that He can create whatever He likes from whatever He likes, and He can do whatever He wishes.

[29].Surah Al-Ankabut [The Spider]: Ayat 59-60

Ayat 59. Those who are patient, and put their trust (only) in their Lord (Allah).
Ayat 60. And so many a moving (living) creatures there is, that carries not its own provision! Allah provides for it and for you. And He is the All-Hearer, the All Knower.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Ankabut (The Spider) Ayat 59 and 60. Those who persevere in patience, and put their trust, in their Lord and Cherisher. 60. How many are the creatures that carry not their own sustenance? It is Allah who feeds (both) them and you: for He hears and knows (all things). If we look at the animal creation, we see that many creatures seem almost helpless to find their own food or sustain their full life, being surrounded by many enemies. Yet in the Plan of Allah they find full sustenance and protection. So does man. Man's needs—as well as helplessness—are by many degrees greater. Yet Allah provides for him as for all His creatures. Allah listens to the wish and cry of all His creatures and He knows their needs and how to provide for them all. Man should not therefore hesitate to suffer exile or persecution in Allah's Cause.
Hazrat Umer bin Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard The Messenger of Allahimage001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) saying,  "If you all depend on Allah with due reliance, He would certainly give you provision as He gives it to birds who go forth hungry in the morning and return with full belly at dusk".
[At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 2344].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al- Ankabut Ayat 60. “many a moving (living) creatures there is, that carries not its own provision! Allah provides for it and for you” Trust in Allah does not mean that one should not give any importance to material resources. What it really means is that along with their due importance, one should have full trust in Allah. Without His Will, material resources are of no avail. But nevertheless it is necessary to have material resources because their procurement is also ordained by Him. Birds do not keep sitting in their nests for food but fly out in search of it.

[29].Surah Al-Ankabut [The Spider]: Ayat 58

Ayat 58. And those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, to them We shall surely give lofty dwellings in Paradise, underneath which rivers flow, to live therein forever. Excellent is the reward of the workers.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Ankabut (The Spider) Ayat 58. But those who believe and work deeds of righteousness - to them shall We give a Home in Heaven, - lofty mansions beneath which flow rivers, - to dwell therein for aye; - an excellent reward for those who do (good)! - The goodly homes mentioned in 16:41 referred to this life, but it was stated there that the reward of the Hereafter would be greater. Here the simile of the Home is referred to Heaven: it will be beautiful: it will be picturesque, with the sight and sound of softly murmuring streams: it will be lofty or sublime: and it will be eternal.
Hazrat Al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Musa (Moses) (PBUH) asked his Rubb: `Who amongst the inhabitants of Jannah will be the lowest in rank?' He said: `It will be a person who will be admitted into Jannah last of all when all the dwellers of Jannah have entered Jannah. It will be said to him: Enter Jannah. But he will say: O my Rubb! How should I enter while the people have settled in their apartments and taken their shares? It will be said to him: Will you be satisfied and pleased if you have a kingdom like that of a monarch of the world? He will say: I will be content, my Rubb. Allah will say: For you is that, and like that and like that and like that and like that. He will say at the fifth time: I am well-pleased, my Rubb. Allah will say: It is for you and ten times more like it. You will have whatever your soul desires and whatever your eyes could delight in. He will say: I am well-pleased, my Rubb.' Musa (PBUH) said: `Who will be of the highest rank in Jannah.' Allah said: `They are those whom I chose and I established their honour with My Own Hand. I attest with My Seal that they will be blessed with such bounties as no eye has seen, no ear has heard and no human mind has perceived.''
[Muslim Book 01, Chapter 83, Hadith # 363]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al- Ankabut Ayat 58. “Excellent is the reward of the workers” This Hadith highlights Allah's unbounded Mercy and Bounty upon His slaves in Jannah although they do not deserve all that.

[29].Surah Al-Ankabut [The Spider]: Ayat 56-57

Ayat 56. (Allah address to believers) “O My slaves who believe! Certainly, spacious is My earth. Therefore worship Me (Allah Alone)."
Ayat 57. Everyone shall taste the death. Then unto Allah you shall be returned.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Ankabut (The Spider) Ayat 56 and 57. O My servants who believe! Truly, spacious is My Earth: therefore serve Me - (and Me Allah alone)! There is no excuse for anyone to plead that he could not do good or was forced to evil by his circumstances and surroundings, or by the fact that he lived in evil times. We must shun evil and seek good, and Allah's Creation is wide enough to enable us to do that, provided we have the will, the patience, and the constancy to do it. It may be that we have to change our village or city or country; or that we have to change our neighbors or associates; or to change our habits or our hours, our position in life or our human relationships, or our callings. Our integrity before Allah is more important than any of these things, and we must be prepared for exile for Hijrah) in all these senses. For the means with which Allah provides us for His service are ample, and it is our fault if we fail. Ayat 57,every soul shall have a taste of death: In the end to Us shall ye be brought back. Death is the separation of the soul from the body when the latter perishes. We should not be afraid of death, for it only brings us back to Allah. The various kinds of Hijrah or exile, physical and spiritual, mentioned in the last note, are also modes of death in a sense: what is there to fear in them?

Hazrat Ubadah bin As-Samit (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: We swore allegiance to Messenger of Allah image001.jpg SAWW (PBUH) to hear and obey; in time of difficulty and in prosperity, in hardship and in ease, to endure being discriminated against and not to dispute about rule with those in power, except in case of evident infidelity regarding which there is a proof from Allah. We swore allegiance to Messenger of Allah image001.jpg  SAWW (PBUH) to say what was right wherever we were, and not to fear from anyone's reproached.
[Muslim Volume 020, Book 08, Hadith # 4541].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al- Ankabut Ayat 56.” Therefore worship Me (Allah Alone)” It has been emphasized in this Hadith that even if a Muslim ruler is sinful and cruel, one should not disobey him unless he orders to go against the Divine injunctions. In that case, such rulers should not be obeyed. Similarly, it is not permissible to revolt against them until they commit clear-cut infidelity because there is a greater danger of loss in revolt and rebellion. It should be noted once and for all that the expressions of truth and compliance with religious injunctions have top priority on all occasions. This should be done regardless of what people say on this account.

[29].Surah Al-Ankabut [The Spider]: Ayat 54-55

Ayat 54. They ask you to hasten on the torment. And verily! Hell, of a surety, will encompass the disbelievers.
Ayat 55. On the Day when the torment (Hell-fire) shall cover them from above them and from underneath their feet, and it will be said: "Taste what you used to do."

Tafseer of Surah Al-Ankabut (The Spider) Ayat 54. They ask thee to hasten on the Punishment: but, of a surety, Hell will encompass the Rejecters of Faith!- The challenge of the wicked for Punishment was answered in the last verse by reference to Allah's merciful Respite, to give chances of repentance. It is answered in this verse by an assurance that if no repentance is forthcoming, the Punishment will be certain and of an all-pervasive kind. Hell will surround them on all sides, and above them and below them. 55. On the Day that the Punishment shall cover them from above them and from below them, and (a Voice) shall say: "Taste ye (the fruits) of your deeds!"  This is not merely a reproach, but a justification of the Punishment. "It is you who brought it on yourselves by your evil deeds: blame none but yourselves. Allah's Mercy gave you many chances: His Justice has now overtaken you."
Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Among the people of Hell are there those who will be emerged in fire to their ankles, some to their knees, some to their waists, and some to their throats". [Muslim Book 040, Chapter 12, Hadith # 6815].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al- Ankabut Ayat 54 “verily! Hell, of a surety, will encompass the disbelievers” This Hadith tells us that the inhabitants of Jannah will be classified into different categories and enjoy different kinds of luxuries according to their merits. A similar classification will also be made in the inhabitants of Hell and they will suffer torments according to their misdeeds.
