[58] Surah Al-Mujadilah [The Woman Who Pleads]: Ayat 022

Ayat 22. You will not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, making friendship with those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH), even though they were their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their kindred (people). For such He has written Faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with Ruh (proofs, light and true guidance) from Himself. And We will admit them to Gardens (Paradise) under which rivers flow, to dwell therein (forever). Allah is pleased with them, and they with Him. They are the Party of Allah. Verily, it is the Party of Allah that will be the successful.

Tafseer of Surah Al- Mujadilah Ayat 22. Thou wilt not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, loving those who resist Allah and His Messenger, even though they were their fathers or their sons, or their brothers, or their kindred. For such He has written Faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with a spirit from Himself. And He will admit them to Gardens beneath which Rivers flow, to dwell therein (forever). Allah will be well pleased with them, and they with Him. They are the Party of Allah. Truly it is the Party of Allah that will achieve Felicity. If anyone believes in Allah and His goodness and justice, and in the Hereafter, in which all true values will be restored he will never love evil or wrongdoing or rebellion against Allah, even if these things are found in his nearest kith and kin. Faith in Allah is indelibly written on the tablets of their hearts and they can never be false to Allah. Cf. 2:87 where it is said that Allah strengthened the Prophet Jesus with the Holy Spirit. Here we learn that all good and righteous men are strengthened by Allah with the Holy Spirit. If anything, the phrase used here is stronger, "a spirit from Himself'. Whenever anyone offers his heart in faith and purity to Allah, Allah accepts it, engraves that Faith on the seeker's heart, and further fortifies him with the divine spirit, which we can no more define adequately than we can define in human language the nature and attributes of Allah. Again we have the doctrine of Allah's Good Pleasure as the highest goal of man, the spiritual heaven which he achieves by a life of purity and faith. He not only attains Allah's Good Pleasure as the crown of his felicity, but his own nature is so far transformed to the pattern of Allah's original creation that his own good pleasure is in nothing but in Allah's Good Pleasure. The mutual good pleasure shows the heights to which man can attain. This is in antithesis to the Party of the Evil One, mentioned in verse 19 above. That Party of Evil will perish, but while it has its run in the scheme of the present world, the Party of Truth and Reality may be Figuratively called the Party of Allah, even though all Creation is Allah's in another sense.

Hazrat Shaddad bin Aus (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg[SAWW](PBUH) said, "A wise man is the one who calls himself to account (and refrains from doing evil deeds) and does noble deeds to benefit him after death; and the foolish person is the one who subdues himself to his temptations and desires and seeks from Allah the fulfillment of his vain desires".  [At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 2459]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mujadilah Ayat 22. You will not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, making friendship with those who oppose AllahThis Hadith highlights the importance of the accountability of one's self. Mere desires which are not coupled with practical efforts are of no avail because Allah grants reward on good deeds and not on yearnings and desires which are not supported by noble actions.

[58] Surah Al-Mujadilah [The Woman Who Pleads]: Ayat 021

Ayat 21. Allah has decreed: "Verily! It is I and My Messengers who shall be the victorious." Verily, Allah is All-Powerful, All-Mighty.

Tafseer of Surah Al- Mujadilah Ayat 21. Allah has decreed: "It is I and My messengers who must prevail": For Allah is One full of strength, able to enforce His Will. For the meaning of 'Aziz, 22:40. Allah will, without doubt, help our messengers and those who believe, (both) in this world´s life and on the Day when the Witnesses will stand forth, The Day of Judgment is described as "the Day when Witnesses will stand forth". This description implies two things: (1) that there man will be judged justly; his past actions and his faculties and opportunities will be witnesses as to the use he made of them (24:24); intact he will himself be a witness against himself (6:130); and the prophets and just men will bear witness to the fact that they preached and warned men (39:69; 2:133). The Day when no profit will it be to Wrong-doers to present their excuses, but they will (only) have the Curse and the Home of Misery. After the testimony mentioned in the last note, there will be no room for excuses, and if any were made, they could serve no purpose, unlike the state of matters in this world, where there is much make-believe, and Falsehood often masquerades as Truth and is accepted as such even by those who should know better.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allahimage001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said,  "Allah, the Exalted, has said: `I will declare war against him who treats with hostility a pious worshipper of Mine. And the most beloved thing with which My slave comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (voluntary prayers or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) until I love him, (so much so that) I become his hearing with which he hears, and his sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he strikes, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks Me something, I will surely give him, and if he seeks My Protection (refuge), I will surely protect him".  [Al-Bukhari Book 08, Chapter 76, Hadith # 509].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mujadilah Ayat 21. Allah has decreed: "Verily! It is I and My Messengers who shall be the victorious." Verily, Allah is All-Powerful, All-MightyThis Hadith tell us the status and distinctive signs of the favored men of Allah ('Auliya' Allah) The Noble Qur'an has defined them as: "Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah) and used to fear Allah much (by abstaining from evil deeds and sins and by doing righteous deeds)". (10:63). According to this definition, every believer who really fears Allah is a favored of Allah. It means that except for Faith and piety, favored of Allah are neither people of the special kind nor have they any special distinctive signs, as is generally thought by some people. In this respect, the ignorance of the general public is shocking because they regard even such persons as favored of Allah who not only neglect the religious obligations and the practice of the Prophet (PBUH), but also woefully lack cleanliness. Sometimes they call even mad or half-mad persons as favorites of Allah, whereas a Wali in the true sense is one who is meticulous about observing the obligations and is fearful of Allah. This Hadith brings about the following points: Firstly, the loves of those whom Allah loves entail the love of Allah, and hating them entails the hatred of Allah. Secondly, when a true Muslim acquires nearness and love of Allah by means of performing religious obligations, supererogatory and voluntary prayers, Allah then becomes his special helper and protects his limbs and organs and does not let them work for His disobedience.

[58] Surah Al-Mujadilah [The Woman Who Pleads]: Ayat 020

Ayat 20. Those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH), they will be among the lowest (most humiliated).

Tafseer of Surah Al- Mujadilah Ayat 20. Those who resist Allah and His Messenger will be among those most humiliated. There are various degrees of humiliation in the final state in the spiritual world. But the worst is the humiliation of being numbered among those who ignominiously attempted to resist the Irresistible.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Once the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) said "Every Prophet was given miracles because of which people believed, but what I have been given, is Divine Inspiration (Quran) which Allah has revealed to me. So I hope that my followers will outnumber the followers of the other Prophets on the Day of Resurrection."  [Al-Bukhari Volume 6, Book 61, Number 504]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mujadilah Ayat 20. Those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH), they will be among the lowest (most humiliated).
This Hadith evidently shows the importance of Quran and its faithful following and the practice of the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH). The followers of the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) exceed the followers of other Prophets in number. Only such people will be successful who act upon the teachings of the Qur'an and abstain from what is forbidden by Allah. The Muslims of the early centuries of Islam were blessed with great honour by Allah because they loved and applied the Qur'an. Because of this meaningful attachment with the Qur'an, they made great achievements in religious and worldly spheres. Those who neglected the teachings of Islam will be disgraced and humiliated. May Allah guide and enable us to re-establish our contact with the Qur'an so that we can regain our past glory. Exaltation and humiliation mentioned in the Hadith is bound to happen in both this life and the Hereafter.

[58] Surah Al-Mujadilah [The Woman Who Pleads]: Ayat 019

Ayat 19.  Shaitan (Satan) has overtaken them. So he has made them forget the remembrance of Allah. They are the party of Shaitan (Satan). Verily, it is the party of Shaitan (Satan) that will be the losers!

Tafseer of Surah Al- Mujadilah Ayat 19. The Evil One has got the better of them: so he has made them lose the remembrance of Allah. They are the Party of the Evil One. Truly, it is the Party of the Evil One that will perish! Man's original nature as created by Allah is good (30:30). It is because man, in spite of the warnings he has received, allows Evil to get the mastery over him, that man forgets Allah and the divine qualities which Allah gave him. The result of the perversion is that man becomes a partisan of Evil, and as such dooms himself to perdition.

Hazrat Talha bin Ubaidullah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: At the sight of the new moon (of the lunar month), the Messenger of Allah cid:image003.gif@01D24BCE.A78122D0 [SAWW](PBUH) used to supplicate: "Allahumma ahillahu `alaina bil-amni wal-iman, was-salamati wal-Islam, Rabbi wa Rabbuk-Allah, Hilalu rushdin wa khairin (O Allah, let this moon appear on us with security and Iman; with safety and Islam. (O moon!) Your Rubb and mine is Allah. May this moon be bringing guidance and good).''  [At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 3451].

Lesson : After sighting the moon, one should recite the prayer which was recited by the Prophet cid:image003.gif@01D24BCE.A78122D0 [SAWW](PBUH). The prayer cited in the text of this Hadith is one of them.

[58] Surah Al-Mujadilah [The Woman Who Pleads]: Ayat 018

Ayat 18. On the Day when Allah will resurrect them all together (for their account), then they will swear to Him as they swear to you (O Muslims). And they think that they have something (to stand upon). Verily, they are liars!

Tafseer of Surah Al- Mujadilah Ayat 18. One day will Allah raise them all up (for Judgment): then will they swear to Him as they swear to you: And they think that they have something (to stand upon). No, indeed! they are but liars! When Judgement is established, and before they realize the Truth, they may think {as now) that some oaths or excuses will save them. But they have not now much less will they have then-any footing to stand upon. Falsehood is falsehood, and must perish. They must learn the worthlessness of their falsehood.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah cid:image004.gif@01D24A16.87CAB370[SAWW](PBUH) said, "Between the two Blowing of the Trumpet there will be an interval of forty.'' The people said, "O Abu Hurairah! Do you mean forty days?'' He said, "I cannot say anything.'' They said, "Do you mean forty years?'' He said, "I cannot say anything.'' They said, "Do you mean forty months?'' He said, "I cannot say anything. The Prophet cid:image004.gif@01D24A16.87CAB370[SAWW](PBUH) added: `Everything of the human body will perish except the last coccyx bone (end part of the spinal cord), and from that bone Allah will reconstruct the whole body. Then Allah will send down water from the sky and people will grow like green vegetables'.''   [Al-Bukhari Book 06, Chapter 60, Hadith # 457].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mujadilah Ayat 18. On the Day when Allah will resurrect them all together (for their account)" 1. When Israfil blows the Trumpet the first time, by Allah's Leave, all those who are in the heavens and on earth will swoon away, except him whom Allah will. This will be the first Blowing. Then, it will be blown a second time, they will become alive and will emerge from their graves. These Blowings are known as the `Blowings of Fainting and Rising'. As regard the interval between these two Blowings, the narrator of the narration, Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him), could not say anything when he was asked about it; as he himself did not know it. But in other narrations the interval has been mentioned as forty years.
2. The earth eats away the whole body of humans except the bodies of the Prophets. However, only the end part of the spinal cord remains intact. How it remains intact is known to Allah, but from it mankind will be created again.
3. Bodies will rise from the earth as vegetation springs out from the earth after the rainfall.

[58] Surah Al-Mujadilah [The Woman Who Pleads]: Ayat 017

Ayat 17. Their children and their wealth will avail them nothing against Allah. They will be (the) dwellers of the Fire, to dwell therein forever.

Tafseer of Surah Al- Mujadilah Ayat 17. Of no profit whatever to them, against Allah, will be their riches nor their sons: they will be Companions of the Fire, to dwell therein (for aye)! They may arrogantly boast of riches and alliances and followers in manpower. But what are such worldly advantages before the Throne of the Disposer of all events? They must come to utter misery.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "The world is the believer's prison and the infidel's Jannah".  [Muslim Book 42, Chapter 01, Hadith # 7058

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mujadilah Ayat 17. Their children and their wealth will avail them nothing against Allah. They will be (the) dwellers of the Fire, to dwell therein forever. As compared with the pleasures and luxuries, which are in store for a true believer in Jannah in the Hereafter, this world is a prison; and against the ceaseless torture that awaits the Kuffar (disbelievers) in Hell, this world is a Jannah for them. It can also mean that the way a Muslim saves himself in life from lusts and desires and leads a pious life with fear of Allah, this world is a prison for him because he is fettered in the chains of rules and regulations, while a Kafir (disbeliever) is free from all kinds of restrictions and is completely given to lusts and desires, and this is how this world is a Jannah for him. The purpose of this Hadith is to induce Muslims for the preparation of Al-Akhirah (the Hereafter) and prevent them from unlawful luxuries of this world.

[58] Surah Al-Mujadilah [The Woman Who Pleads]: Ayat 016

Ayat 16. They have made their oaths a screen (for their evil actions). Thus they hinder (men) from the Path of Allah, so they shall have a humiliating torment.

Tafseer of Surah Al- Mujadilah Ayat 16. They have made their oaths a screen (for their misdeeds): thus they obstruct (men)(5357) from the Path of Allah. therefore shall they have a humiliating Penalty. A false man, by swearing that he is true, makes his falsehood all the more heinous. He stands in the way of other people accepting Truth. He gives a handle to the cynics and the sceptics.

Hazrat Abu Said Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah cid:image004.gif@01D24269.BDBE2480[SAWW](PBUH) said, "Everyone who breaks a covenant will have a flag by his buttocks on the Day of Resurrection. It will be raised higher according to the nature of his breach. Behold, there will be no greater a sin with respect to breaking the covenant than that of a ruler who breaks his covenant with the Muslim masses.''  [Muslim Book 04, Chapter 19, Hadith # 4903].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mujadilah Ayat 16. They have made their oaths a screen (for their evil actions). Thus they hinder (men) from the Path of Allah, so they shall have a humiliating torment. This Hadith clearly shows that breach of covenant is forbidden in Islam, especially on the part of a ruler because (a) he is in a position to honour his covenant, and (b) his evil can affect the whole Muslim community. It was a custom in the Pre-Islamic Period of Ignorance in Arabia to fix flags on poles for those who were guilty of breach of oath to humiliate and defame them. Almighty Allah has mentioned the punishment of flags on the Day of Resurrection for such people who break their covenant so that people can easily understand its nature. What a humiliation that will be!
* Placing the flag by his bottom signifies humiliation and disgrace because flags are usually carried in front of the bearer not behind. (Editor's Note)
