[12].Surah Yusuf [Joseph] : Ayat 58-60

Ayat 58. And Yusuf's (Joseph)[PBUH] brethren came and they entered unto him, and he recognized them, but they recognized him not.
Ayat 59. And when he had furnished them forth with provisions (according to their need), he said: "Bring me a brother of yours from your father; (he meant Benjamin). See you not that I give full measure, and that I am the best of the hosts?
Ayat 60. "But if you bring him not to me, there shall be no measure (of corn) for you with me, nor shall you come near me."

Hazrat Abu Shuraih Khuwailid bin `Amr Al-Khuza`i (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) saying, "He who believes in Allah and the Last Day, should accommodate his guest according to his right.'' He was asked: "What is his right, O Messenger of Allah?'' He  [SAWW](PBUH) replied: "It is (to accommodate him) for a day and a night, and hospitality extends for three days, and what is beyond that is charity.''

[Muslim Book 001, Chapter 20, Hadith # 078].
In another narration it is added: Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "It is not permissible for a Muslim to stay so long with his brother till he makes him sinful.'' He was asked: "O Messenger of Allah, how can he make him sinful?'' He replied, "He prolongs his stay with him till nothing is left with the host to entertain him (guest).''
[Muslim Book 018, Chapter 13, Hadith # 4287].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Yusuf Ayat 59. "See you not that I give full measure, and that I am the best of the hosts?" This Hadith throws light on something more of the etiquette and scope of hospitality. A guest ought to be given the best entertainment on the first day and night. For the next two days, hospitality should be moderate. On the fourth day, the guest should leave for his destination. Yet if he chooses to stay, hospitality will be in the sense of charity.
