[45]. Surah Al-Jathiyah [The Kneeling]: Ayat 016

Ayat. 16. And indeed Allah gave the Children of Israel the Scripture, and the understanding of the Scripture and its laws, and the Prophethood; and provided them with good things, and preferred them above the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns) (of their time, during that period),

Tafseer of Surah Al-Jathiyah Ayat 16. We did aforetime grant to the Children of Israel the Book the Power of Command, and Prophethood; We gave them, for Sustenance, things good and pure; and We favored them above the nations. The argument here is similar to that in 44:32-33 but; it is more particularized here. Israel had the Revelation through Moses, the power of judgment and command through the Kingdom of David and Solomon, and numerous prophetic warnings through such men as Isaiah and Jeremiah. "Sustenance", here as elsewhere is to be understood both in a physical and metaphorical sense. The Mosaic Law laid down rules of diet, excluding things unclean, and it laid down rules for a pure and honorable life. In this way Israel became the standard-bearer of Allah's law, thus "favored above the nations."

Hazrat Ubadah bin As-Samit (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: We swore allegiance to Messenger of Allah image001.jpg[SAWW](PBUH) to hear and obey; in time of difficulty and in prosperity, in hardship and in ease, to endure being discriminated against and not to dispute about rule with those in power, except in case of evident infidelity regarding which there is a proof from Allah. We swore allegiance to Messenger of Allah image001.jpg[SAWW](PBUH) to say what was right wherever we were, and not to fear from anyone's reproach. [Muslim Volume 020, Book 08, Hadith # 4541].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Jathiyah Ayat 16. And indeed Allah gave the Children of Israel the Scripture, and the understanding of the Scripture and its laws” It has been emphasized in this Hadith that even if a Muslim ruler is sinful and cruel, one should not disobey him unless he orders to go against the Divine injunctions. In that case, such rulers should not be obeyed. Similarly, it is not permissible to revolt against them until they commit clear-cut infidelity because there is a greater danger of loss in revolt and rebellion. It should be noted once and for all that the expression of truth and compliance with religious injunctions have top priority on all occasions. This should be done regardless of what people say on this account.
