Ayat 39. And
among His Signs (in this), that you see the earth barren, but when We
send down water (rain) to it, it is stirred to life and growth (of
vegetations). Verily, He Who gives it life, surely, (He) is Able to give
life to the dead (on the Day of Resurrection). Indeed! He is Able to do
all things.
Tafseer of Surah Ha-Mim Al-Sajdah (or Surah Fussilat) Ayat 39. And among His Signs in this: thou see the earth barren and desolate; but when We send down rain to it, it is stirred to life and yields increase. Truly, He Who gives life to the (dead) earth can surely give life to (men) who are dead. For He has power over all things. Evil makes of the souls of men what drought makes of land: it kills life, beauty, and fruitfulness. Allah's Word in the spiritual world has the same wonderful effect as rain has on barren land; it gives life, beauty, and fruitfulness. And the effect of Allah's Word is also seen through the lives of men who repel evil with what is better. They also convert dead souls (which harbor spite and hatred) into living souls, which come into the main current of spiritual life, and help in carrying out Allah's beneficent Purpose. Why should we wonder then at the potency of Allah's Word, whether in our probationary lives here, or in the eternal life of the Hereafter.
Hazrat Abu Musa (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH)
said, "The similitude of guidance and knowledge with which Allah has
sent me is like a rain which has fallen on some ground. A fertile part
of earth has absorbed water and brought forth much grass and herbs.
Another part, which is solid, held the water and Allah benefits men
thereby, who drank and gave others to drink, and used it for irrigation.
But some of it has fallen on a portion of sandy land which neither
retains the water nor produces herbage. Such is the likeness of the man
who understands the religion of Allah and who gets benefit of what Allah
has sent me with; he learns and teaches others. It is also the likeness
of the man who neither raises his head on that account (meaning he does
not benefit from what the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) was sent with) nor accepts Allah's Guidance with which I am sent". [Al-Bukhari Book 01, Chapter 03, Hadith # 079]
