[38].Surah Suad: Ayat 009-011

Ayat 9.  Messenger of Allahimage001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) Or have they the treasures of the Mercy of your Lord, the All-Mighty, the Real Bestower?
Ayat 10. Or is it that the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? If so, let them ascend up with means (to the heavens)!
Ayat 11. (As they denied Allah’s Message) they will be a defeated host like the confederates of the old times (who were defeated).

Tafseer of Surah Suad Ayat 9. Or have they the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord,- the Exalted in Power, the Grantor of Bounties without measure? If they set themselves to judge Allah, have they anything to show comparable to Allah's Mercy and Power! He has both in infinite measure. Who are they to question the grant of His Mercy and Revelation to His own Chosen One? Ayat 10. Or have they the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all between? If so, let them mount up with the ropes and means (to reach that end)! Weak and puny creatures though they are, they dare to raise their heads against the Omnipotent, as if they had dominion over Creation and not He! If they had any power, let them mount up to heaven and use all the means they have to that end, and see how they can frustrate Allah's Purpose! Ayat 11. But there - will be put to flight even a host of confederates. Of course they cannot frustrate Allah's Purpose. In that world—the spiritual world—they will be ignominiously routed, even if they form the strongest confederacy of the Powers of Evil that ever could combine.

Hazrat Abu Thabit (Abu Saeed / Abu Waleed) heard from Hazrat Sahl bin Hunaif (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said: "He who asks Allah for martyrdom, Allah will raise him to the high status of the martyrs, even if he dies on his bed". [Muslim Book 20, Chapter 46, Hadith # 4695].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah As-Suad Ayat 11. (As they denied Allah’s Message) they will be a defeated host like the confederates of the old times (who were defeated)” This Hadith highlights the merit and importance of sincere intention which in fact is so great that by virtue of it Allah raises a person's status to that of a martyr. On the contrary, persons of foul intention will be consigned to Hell by Allah even if they die in Jihad.

[38].Surah Suad: Ayat 007-008

Ayat 7. "We have not heard (the like) of this among the people of these later days. This is nothing but an invention!
Ayat 8. "Has the Reminder been sent down to (Muhammad image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) (alone) from among us?" Nay! but they are in doubt about My Reminder (this Qur’an)! Nay, but they have not tasted (Allah’s) Torment!

Tafseer of Surah Suad Ayat 7. "We never heard (the like) of this among the people of these latter days: this is nothing but a made up tale!" 'Whatever may have been the case in the past', they said, 'our own immediate ancestors worshipped these idols in Makkah, and why should we give them up? Self-complacency was stronger with them than Truth; and so they call Truth "a made-up tale"! Some Commentators interpret al Millat al Akhirah to refer to the last religion preached before Islam, viz. Christianity, which had itself departed from Monotheism to Trinity. Ayat 8. "What! hasthe Message been sent to him (Of all persons) among us?"...but they are in doubt concerning My (Own) Message! Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment! Here comes in envy. 'If a Message had to come, why should it come to him, the orphan son of 'Abd Allah, and not to one of our own great men?' They have no clear idea of how Allah's Message comes! It is not a worldly thing to be given to anyone. It is a divine thing requiring spiritual preparation. If they close their eyes to it now, it will be brought home to them when they taste the consequences of their folly!
Hazrat Ibn `Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg[SAWW](PBUH) said, "O Allah! To You I have submitted, and in You do I believe, and in You I put my trust, to You do I turn, and for You I argued. O Allah, I seek refuge with You through Your Power; there is none worthy of worship except You Alone; that You safeguard me against going astray. You are the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists; the One Who never dies, whereas human beings and jinn will all die". [Muslim Book 35, Chapter 17, Hadith # 6561]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah As-Suad Ayat 7. "We have not heard (the like) of this among the people of these later days. This is nothing but an invention!” Even in the worst circumstances one should always have faith and trust in Allah, Allah (SWT) says "I am just as Myslave thinks of Me when he remembers Me". Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servants than anything else. This Hadith highlights the merits of expecting good treatment of Allah. But this has to be backed by good actions, in the same way as one can hope for good results after ploughing and sowing seeds. It is obvious that one who accomplishes good deeds will expect good consequences, and one who does evil deeds will expect evil consequences. Allah will treat people according to their expectation that are founded on their actions, and the reward will match their deeds.

[38].Surah Suad: Ayat 005-006

Ayat 5. "Has he made the aliha (gods) (all) into One Ilah (God - Allah). Verily, this is a curious thing!"
Ayat 6. And the leaders among them went about (saying): "Go on, and remain constant to your aliha(gods)! Verily, This is a thing designed (against you by Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH)!

Tafseer of Surah Suad Ayat 5. "Has he made the gods (all) into one Allah. Truly this is a wonderful thing!" And what is the offence of the Messenger of Unity? That he has made all their fantastic gods disappear: that in place of chaos he has brought harmony; that in place of conflict he brings peace! It is a wonderful thing, but not in the sarcastic sense in which the Unbelievers scoff at it! Ayat 6. And the leader among them go away (impatiently), (saying), "Walk ye away, and remain constant to your gods! For this is truly a thing designed (against you)!  When the message of Islam was being preached in its infancy, and the Preacher and his followers were being persecuted by the Pagans, one of the devices adopted by the Pagan leaders was to get the Prophet's uncle Abu Talib to denounce or renounce his beloved nephew. A conference was held with Abu Talib for this purpose. On its failure the leaders walked away, and began to discredit the great movement by falsely giving out that it was designed against their personal influence, and to throw power into the hands of the Prophet. 'Umar's conversion occurred in the sixth year of the Mission (seventh year before the Hijrah). The circumstances connected with it greatly alarmed the Quraish. Chiefs, who, greedy of autocracy themselves, confused the issue by accusing the righteous Preacher of plotting against their power.

Hazrat Ubadah bin As-Samit (May Allah be pleased with him) said : I, along with a group of people, gave the pledge of allegiance to The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg  [SAWW](PBUH). He said, "I take your Pledge on the condition that you (1) will not join partners in worship with Allah, (2) will not steal, (3) will not commit illegal sexual intercourse, (4) will not kill your offspring (for fear of poverty), (5) will not slander, (6) and will not disobey me when I order you to do good. Whoever among you will abide by his pledge, his reward will be with Allah, and whoever commits any of those sins and receives the punishment in this world, that punishment will be an expiation for his sins and purification; but if Allah screens him, then it will be up to Allah to punish him if He will or excuse Him, if He will." [Al-Bukhari Book 05, Chapter 58, Hadith # 232].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah As-Suad Ayat 5. "Has he made the aliha (gods) (all) into OneIlah (God - Allah). Verily, this is a curious thing!" This Hadith here the bring forth attention of Muslim to their obligations, being fully conscious of their accountability to Allah (SWT) they are apt to make full efforts to provide justice and peace to other people. Shirk (polytheism) is an absolutely unpardonable sin. All other sins, how many and how grave they may be, can be forgiven by Allah. He will pardon them if He likes and send the sinful persons straight to Jannah, or keep them for a while in Hell and then shift them to Jannah. In any case, the punishment of Hell will not be eternal for them, as it is for the Mushriks (polytheist).

[38].Surah Suad : Ayat 003 - 004

Ayat 3. How many a generation Allah have destroyed before them, and they cried out when there was no longer time for escape!
Ayat 4. And they (Arab pagans) wonder that a warner is a sorcerer, a lie.

Tafseer of Surah Suad Ayat 3. How many generations before them did Allah destroy? In the end they cried (for mercy) when there was no longer time for being saved! Teaching, Warning, Signs have been given by Allah to all nations and at all times, and yet nations have rebelled and gone wrong and suffered destruction. If only later generations could learn that wrongdoing results in self-destruction! For the justice of Allah merely carries out the result of their own choice and actions. At any time during their probation they could repent and obtain mercy, but their "Self-glory and Separatism" stand in the way. Ultimately they do cry for a way of escape, but it is then too late. Ayat 4. So they wonder that a Warner has come to them from among themselves! and the Unbelievers say, "This is a sorcerer telling lies! Their wonder is only stimulated. They are full of envy and spite against one of themselves who has been chosen by Allah to be His Messenger, and they vent their spite by making all sorts of false accusations. The man who was pre-eminent for truth and conscientious consideration, they call "a sorcerer and a liar"! (Cf. 51:52).

Hazrat Abu Said Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "The best type of Jihad (striving in the way of Allah) is speaking a true word in the presence of a tyrant ruler.'' [Abu Dawud Hadith # 4344 and At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 2174].

Lesson: Jihad has many degrees. Preaching of virtue is also Jihad. The most meritorious of all is the effort of communicating the Message of Allah to an unjust ruler. Similarly, if a society is so much given to a vice that no one can dare to utter a word against it, then to protest against it can also be reckoned as the best Jihad.

[38].Surah Suad: Ayat 001-002

Ayat 1. Suad [These letters (Suad etc.) are one of the miracles of the Qur’an and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. By the Qur’an full of reminding.
Ayat 2. Nay, those who disbelieve are in false pride and opposition (of Prophet image001.jpg PBUH andQuran).

Tafseer of Surah Suad Ayat 1. Suad: By the Qur´an, Full of Admonition (This is the Truth). Suad is a letter of the Arabic alphabet. It is used here as an Abbreviated Letter,. The letter Sad occurs in combination in Surah 19, and by itself at the beginning of S. 38, and nowhere else. The factor common to S. 1, S.19, and S. 38 is that in each case the core of the Surah consists in the stories (qasas) of the Prophets. In this Surah we have the stories of Noah, Hud PBUH, Saleh PBUH, Lot PBUH, Shuayb PBUH, and Moses PBUH, leading up to Muhammad PBUH, and in S. 38, the stories of David PBUH, Solomon PBUH, and Job similarly lead up to Muhammad PBUH, occupying three out of the five sections. Surah 19 consists almost entirely of such stories. Can we understand Sad to stand for qasas, of which it is the most characteristic letter?. No dogmatism is permissible in trying to interpret Abbreviated Letters. But it is suggested that it may stand for Qasas ("Stories"), in which the dominant consonant is s. For this Surah is concerned mainly with the stones of David and Solomon as illustrative of the relative positions of spiritual and worldly power. Full of admonition: the word Dhikr is far more comprehensive than any single word or phrase that lean think of in English: it implies (1) remembrance in a spirit of reverence; (2) recital, celebrating the praises of Allah; (3) teaching, admonition, warning; (4) Message, Revelation, as in Ahl at Dhikr, "those who possess the Message" 16:43). Ayat 2. But the Unbelievers (are steeped) in Self-glory and Separatism. The great root of Evil and Unbelief is Self-glory or Arrogance, as is pointed out in several places with regard to Satan: cf, below, 38:74-76. This leads to Envy and Separatism, or a desire to start a peculiar doctrine or sect of one's own, instead of a desire to find common grounds of belief and life, which lead to the Religion of Unity in Allah. This teaching of Unity was what the Pagans objected to in the Prophet (as mentioned in verse 5 of this Surah)!

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-Aas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Four are the qualities which, when found in a person, make him a sheer hypocrite, and one who possesses one of them, possesses one characteristic of hypocrisy until he abandons it. These are: When he is entrusted with something, he betrays trust; when he speaks, he lies; when he promises, he acts treacherously; and when he argues, he behaves in a very imprudent, insulting manner.'' [Al-Bukhari 01, Chapter 02, Hadith # 033].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah As-Suad Ayat 02 “those who disbelieve are in false pride and opposition” Theologically speaking, a disagreement between heart and tongue - or word and deed - about the declaration of faith in Islam is defined as hypocrisy. In the lifetime of the Prophet image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) there existed a group of hypocrites whose traits of characters have been outlined in Ahadith. Humanly it is not possible to perceive malice hidden in one's heart. Even Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) hardly knew what lay in the hearts of people because, despite having the exalted status of Prophet Hood, he was fundamentally a human. Allah, however, had revealed hearts to him. But today, we have no error-free source to pick hypocrites from the ranks of believers. Quite naturally, we fall back on the Hadith which provides us definite symptoms of the character and manners of hypocrites so as to distinguish them from sincere Muslims. Ulama' say that there are two aspects of hypocrisy, relating to faith and practice. In the first case, a hypocrite conceals his disbelief in his heart but verbally professes Islam. Anyone who belongs to this category of hypocrites will be, as stated in the Qur'an: "In the lowest depths of the Fire.'' (4:145). in the second case, a man does have faith in his heart but in practice he portrays the characteristics of a hypocrite, unfortunately a majority of today's Muslims practically behave like hypocrites and possess their propensities. It is this hypocritical attitude and moral deficiencies of Muslims that have degraded them and made Islam unappealing. May Allah put Muslims on the right path!

[37].Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks): Ayat 180-182

Ayat 180. Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Honor and Power! (He is free) from what they attribute unto Him!
Ayat 181. And peace be on the Messengers! (PBUH)
Ayat 182. And all the praise and thanks be to Allah, Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinn’s and all that exists).

Tafseer of Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks) Ayat 180 to 182. Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honor and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)! This and the following two verses recapitulate: (1) Glory, Honor, and Power belong to Allah; (2) No one is equal to Him; (3) He sends Messengers and revelations, and His aid will overcome all obstacles; for (4) He loves and cherishes all His Creation. Ayat 181. And Peace on the messengers! Ayat 182. And Praise to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds.

*These are the last Ayats of 37th Surah of Al-Quran As-Saffat; this Surah contained 182 Ayats, Insha Allah from tomorrow 38th Surah of Al-Quran Surah Suad will starts.

Hazrat Abu Masud Al-Badri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: We were sitting in the company of Saad bin Ubadah (May Allah be pleased with him), when the Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) came to us. Bashir bin Saad said: "O Messenger of Allah! Allah has commanded us to supplicate for you, but how should we do that?'' The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) kept silent. We were much perturbed over his silence and we wished he did not asked him this question. The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Say: `O Allah, exalt the mention of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as you exalted the family of Ibrahim. And bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You blessed the family of Ibrahim. You are the Praised, the Glorified,' and the method of greeting (i.e., Salam) is as you know.''
[Muslim Book 04, Chapter 15, Hadith # 803]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah As-Saffat Ayat 181. And peace be on the Messengers!(PBUH)" In this Hadith, the Prophet image001.jpg (PBUH) has showed us that the manner of offering Salam was the same as the one mentioned in the previous Hadith. "Al'' means the wives of the Prophet (PBUH) and those of his relatives who were from Banu Hashim and Banu `Abdul-Muttalib and had embraced Islam. Some scholars are of the opinion that it is general and applies to all his followers. This Hadith also teaches us that if one does not have knowledge of a religious matter, he must seek guidance from the knowledgeable scholars of Islam about it, rather than going by his opinion. Knowledgeable persons (scholars) here means persons who are well-versed in the Qur'an and Hadith and can answer questions in the light of them, and not from the sayings of others or from their own intelligence.

[37].Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks): Ayat 176-179

Ayat 176. Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment?
Ayat 177. Then, when it descends into their courtyard (i.e. near to them), evil will be the morning for those who had been warned!
Ayat 178.  So turn (O Muhammad image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) away from them for a while,
Ayat 179. And watch and they shall see (the torment)!

Tafseer of Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks) Ayat 176 to 179. Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment? The last verse enjoined Patience under the attacks of Evil, in the knowledge that evil must be conquered at last. Evil may perhaps turn back arrogantly and say. If a punishment is to come, why not bring it on now? Why indeed? The answer is: when it comes, it will come like a rush by night when the enemy is overpowered, when he least expects it: when the day dawns, it is a sorry plight in which the enemy finds himself. Cf. 22:47 , and n. 2826: and 26:204, n. 3230. 177. But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! The parable is that of an enemy camp in a plain, which is surprised and destroyed by a night attack from the hills. Evil is the plight of any survivors in the morning. Their regrets will be all the more poignant if they had had some sort of a warning before hand and had paid no heed to it! 178. So turn thou away from them for a little while, This and the following verse repeat verses 174-175 (with a slight verbal alteration). The argument in verses 176-177 brought in a new point. When that is finished, the repetition carries us back to the main argument, and rounds off the whole Surah. 179. And watch (how they fare) and they soon shall see (how thou farest)!

Hazrat Masruq (May Allah be pleased with him) said: We visited `Abdullah bin Masud (May Allah be pleased with him) and he said to us: O people! He who has the knowledge of any matter may convey it to the others. And he who has no knowledge, thereof, should say: "Allahu a'lam (Allah knows better).'' It is a part and parcel of knowledge that a man who has no knowledge of a matter should say: "Allah knows better.'' Allah said to His Prophet image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH): "Say (O Muhammad image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH)): `No wage do I ask of you for this (the Qur'an), nor am I one of the Mutakallifun (those who pretend and fabricate things which do not exist).''' (38:86) [Al-Bukhari Book 06, Chapter 60, Hadith # 333].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah As-Saffat Ayat 178. So turn (O Muhammad image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) away from them for a while. If one does not know about something, he should not say anything about it by way of conjecture, speculation and guesswork because this is also pretension which is forbidden. When religious scholars are asked about anything which they do not know, they should confess their ignorance. Such a confession is also a mark of scholarship. In other words, they should abstain from giving verdict about any matter without making a thorough study and research on it.
