Ayat
52. Never did We
send a Messenger or a Prophet before you, but; when he did recite the revelation
or narrated or spoke, Shaitan (Satan) threw (some falsehood) in it. But
Allah abolishes that which Shaitan (Satan) throws in. Then Allah
establishes His Revelations. And Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise:
Ayat 53. That He (Allah) may make what is thrown in
by Shaitan (Satan) a trial for those in whose hearts is a disease (of
hypocrisy and disbelief) and whose hearts are hardened. And certainly, the
Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.) are in an opposition far-off
(from the truth against Allah's Messenger and the believers).
[Tafseer]
52. Never did We send a messenger or a prophet before thee, but, when he
framed a desire, Satan threw some (vanity) into his desire: but Allah will
cancel anything (vain) that Satan throws in, and Allah will confirm (and establish) His Signs: for Allah is full of Knowledge and
Wisdom: Prophets and messengers (the distinction is
explained in Surah 19: ayat 51) are but human. Their actions are righteous
and their motives pure, but in judging things from a human point of view, the
suggestion may come to their mind (from Satan) that it would be good to have
power or wealth or influence for furthering Allah's cause, or that it may be
good to conciliate some faction which may be irreconcilable. In fact, in Allah's
Plan, it may be the opposite. Allah, in His mercy and inspiration, will cancel
any false or vain suggestions of this kind, and confirm and strengthen His own
Commands and make known His Will in His Signs or revelations. This clause
and the similar clause at the end of the next verse are parenthetical. Ayat
53.That He may make the suggestions
thrown in by Satan, but a trial for those in whose hearts is a disease and who
are hardened of heart: verily the wrong-doers are in a schism far (from the
Truth): If any suggestion comes to the human
mind that is not in accordance with Allah's Will and Plan, it has two opposite
effects: to evil minds it is a trial and a temptation from the Evil One, but to
the mind well-instructed in Faith, it stands self-condemned at once, and becomes
a means of strengthening the Faith and stimulating redoubled efforts to conform
to the Will of Allah. Surah Baqarah Ayat 10. I
understand the "disease in the heart" to be an earlier state of curse, which
leads in an intensified form to a complete "hardening of the
heart".
Hazrat Abdullah bin
Amr bin Al-Aas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah
[SAWW](PBUH) said, "Four are the qualities which, when found in a person, make
him a sheer hypocrite, and one who possesses one of them, possesses one
characteristic of hypocrisy until he abandons it. These are: When he is
entrusted with something, he betrays trust; when he speaks, he lies; when he
promises, he acts treacherously; and when he argues, he behaves in a very
imprudent, insulting manner.''
[Al-Bukhari 01, Chapter 02, Hadith #
033].
Lesson : as
mentioned above in Surah Al-Hajj Ayat 53."trial for those in whose
hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy and disbelief) and whose hearts are hardened."
Theologically speaking, a disagreement between heart and
tongue - or word and deed - about the declaration of faith in Islam is defined
as hypocrisy. In the lifetime of the Prophet
[SAWW](PBUH) there existed a group of hypocrites whose traits of characters have
been outlined in Ahadith. Humanly it is not possible to perceive malice hidden
in one's heart. Even Messenger of Allah
[SAWW](PBUH) hardly knew what lay in the hearts of people because, despite
having the exalted status of Prophethood, he was fundamentally a human. Allah,
however, had revealed hearts to him. But today, we have no error-free source to
pick hypocrites from the ranks of believers. Quite naturally, we fall back on
the Hadith which provides us definite symptoms of the character and manners of
hypocrites so as to distinguish them from sincere Muslims. Ulama' say that there
are two aspects of hypocrisy, relating to faith and practice. In the first case,
a hypocrite conceals his disbelief in his heart but verbally professes Islam.
Anyone who belongs to this category of hypocrites will be, as stated in the
Qur'an: "In the lowest depths of the Fire.'' (4:145). In the second case, a man
does have faith in his heart but in practice he portrays the characteristics of
a hypocrite, unfortunately a majority of today's Muslims practically behave like
hypocrites and possess their propensities. It is this hypocritical attitude and
moral deficiencies of Muslims that have degraded them and made Islam
unappealing. May Allah put Muslims on the right path!
Hajj occupies a very important position in the various forms of Islamic worship. The Holy Prophet (sws) once, answering a question placed it among the basics of Islam. He defined Islam in the following words: Islam means that you openly state that there is no god except Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; establish the prayer, pay Zakah; fast during the month of Ramadan and offer the Hajj of the House of Allah if you are able to afford journey to it.
