Ayat 116. They said: "If you cease not, O Nuh (Noah)! You
will surely be among those stoned (to death)."
Ayat 117. He
said: "My Lord! Verily, my people have belied me.
Ayat 118.
Therefore judge You between me and them, and save me and those of the believers
who are with me."
Ayat 119. And
We saved him and those with him in the laden ship.
Ayat 120. Then We drowned the
rest (disbelievers) thereafter.
Ayat 121.
Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers.
Ayat 122. And
verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
Tafseer
of Ayat 116 to 122. They
said: "If thou desist not, O Noah! thou shalt be stoned (to death)."Two
other cases occur to me where prophets of Allah were threatened with death by
stoning: one was Abraham (19:46), and the other was 'Shu'ayb (11:91). In neither
case did the threats deter them from carrying out their mission. On the
contrary, the threats recoiled on those who threatened. So also did it happen in
the case of Noah and the Prophet. He
said: "O my Lord! truly my people have rejected me.
"Judge
Thou, then, between me and them openly, and deliver me and those of the
Believers who are with me." So We delivered him and those with him, in the Ark
filled (with all creatures). The
story of Noah's Flood is told in 11:36-48. Here, the point emphasised in Noah's
patience and constancy against threats, and the triumph and preservation of
Allah's truth even though the world was ranged against it. Thereafter
We drowned those who remained behind. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them
do not believe. This
and the following verse run like a refrain throughout this Surah, and give the
keynote to the subject matter: how the Message of Allah is preached, how it is
rejected in all ages, and how it triumphs at last, through the Mercy of Allah.
And
verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most
Merciful.
Hazrat Ibn Umer
(May Allah be pleased with him) said: we counted The Messenger of Allah
[SAWW](PBUH), saying a hundred times during one single sitting: Rabb-ighfir
li, wa tubb `alayya,
innaka Antat-Tawwabur-Rahim. (My Rubb! Forgive me and pardon me. Indeed, You are
the Oft-Returning with compassion and Ever Merciful.''
[Abu
Dawud Hadith # 1516
and At-Tirmidhi
Hadith #
3434].
Lesson : as
mentioned above in Surah Ash-Shuara Ayat 122. And verily! Your
Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. This
Hadith tells us about the etiquette of praying to Allah. We should use the Names
of Allah befitting our prayers, i.e., the Names of Allah signifying those
Attributes of Allah which have a special concern with the subject of our
particular prayer, i.e., while seeking forgiveness, His Names concerning His
Attributes of forgiveness and kindness should be used. On the other hand, while
praying for worldly matters, we should mention His Qualities of charity and
bestowing gifts
etc.
