[29].Surah Al-Ankabut [The Spider]: Ayat 12

Ayat 12. And those who disbelieve say to those who believe: "Follow our way and we will verily bear your sins," never will they bear anything of their sins. Surely, they are liars.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Ankabut (The Spider) Ayat 12. And the Unbelievers say to those who believe: "Follow our path, and we will bear (the consequences) of your faults." Never in the least will they bear their faults: in fact they are liars! Besides the hypocrite there is another type of man who openly scoffs at Faith. 'Take life as we take it,' he says: 'we shall bear your sins.' As if they could! Each soul bears its own burdens, and no one else can bear them. The principle also applies to the type of man who preaches vicarious atonement, for, if followed to its logical conclusion, it means both injustice and irresponsibility, and puts quite a different complexion on the nature of sin.

Hazrat Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) used to supplicate (in these words): "Allahumma inni A’udhu bika min sharri ma `amiltu, wa min sharri ma lam a`mal (O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the evil of that which I have done and the evil of that which I have not done).''
[Muslim Book 35, Chapter 17, Hadith # 6558]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al- Ankabut Ayat 12 “never will they bear anything of their sins” This prayer is also very comprehensive. Sometimes a person does a virtuous deed but it is tainted with slight hypocrisy or pride. It is an element which destroys even the most virtuous deeds. It is this mischief against which Allah's Protection has been sought through this prayer.
