[55] Surah Ar-Rahman [The Most Gracious]: Ayat 033-034

Ayat 33. Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny?
Ayat 34. There will be sent against you both, smokeless flames of fire and (molten) brass, and you will not be able to defend yourselves

Tafseer of Surah Ar-Rahman Ayat 34 to 35. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? Note how gradually we have been led up in the Argument. 'The Signs of Allah are all about you, in revelation, in your intelligence, and in nature around you. Your creation; the mystic light and heat typified by the sun in all directions; the cycle of waters in the physical earth and of Knowledge in the world of Intelligence; the help and cherishing care of Allah Himself-all these things should teach you the Truth and warn you about the Future, which is more particularly referred to in the remainder of the Surah. 35. On you will be sent (O ye evil ones twain!) a flame of fire (to burn) and a smoke (to choke): no defense will ye have: The Dual is with reference to the two worlds explained earlier. We now come to the terrors of the Judgment on the evil ones.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Ukaz, Mijannah and Dhul-Majaz were markets during the pre-Islamic period. The Companions disliked trading there till the following Ayat of the Noble Qur'an were revealed: "There is no sin on you if you seek the Bounty of your Rubb (during Hajj pilgrimage by trading)...'' (2:198) [Al-Bukhari Book 02, Chapter 26, Hadith # 822]

Lesson: as mentioned above The Companions of the Prophet image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) considered trade and commerce during the months of Hajj as sinful because they thought that trade had a sort of resemblance with the bazaars which were arranged on the occasion of Hajj in the pre-Islamic period. Through the Ayah quoted in this Hadith, Almighty Allah removed their misunderstanding. Therefore, trade and commerce on this occasion do not violate the Hajj and Umrah. This is however, only permission. If one wants to earn reward in the Hereafter through his utmost devotion to Allah, it is more meritorious to avoid commercial activities and wholeheartedly concentrate on the remembrance of Allah and His worship.
