[12].Surah Yusuf [Joseph] : Ayat 97-99

Ayat 97. They said: "O our father! Ask forgiveness (from Allah) for our sins, indeed we have been sinners."
Ayat 98. He said: "I will ask my Lord for forgiveness for you, verily He! Only He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful."
Ayat 99. Then, when they entered unto Yusuf (Joseph)[PBUH], he betook his parents to himself and said: "Enter Egypt, if Allah wills, in security."

Hazrat Abu Dharr and Muadh bin Jabal (May Allah be pleased with them) reported that: Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Fear Allah wherever you are, do good deeds after doing bad ones, the former will wipe out the latter, and behave decently towards people" [At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 1987].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Yusuf Ayat 98. ""I will ask my Lord for forgiveness for you, verily He! Only He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful." Virtue obliterates vice means that virtue becomes an atonement for sin. But this applies to minor sins only because major ones will not be forgiven without sincere repentance. Similar is the case of encroachment on public rights which will not be forgiven without their compensation.
