Ayat 12. (It will be said): "This is because, when Allah Alone was invoked (in worship, etc.) you disbelieved, but when partners were joined to Him, you believed! So the judgment is only with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great!"
Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 12. (The answer will be:) "This is because, when Allah was invoked as the Only (object of worship), ye did reject Faith, but when partners were joined to Him, ye believed! the Command is with Allah, Most High, Most Great!" Cf. 39:45. When exclusive devotion is not rendered to Allah, there is no true understanding, in the mind of a creature, of his own true position, or of the working of the Divine Will and Purpose. How can he then hope to achieve the purpose of his life, or obtain Allah's Mercy, which is the only way to obtain release from the consequences of Sin? At the Judgment, the matter will have passed out of the stage at which further chances could have been hoped for. But in any case Allah is High above all things, Great above all that we can conceive of, both in Mercy and injustice. The Decision will be with Him, and Him alone.
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Every one of my Ummah will enter Jannah except those who refuse". He was asked: "Who will refuse?'' He [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Whoever obeys me, shall enter Jannah, and whosoever disobeys me, refuses to (enter Jannah)". [Al-Bukhari Book 9, Chapter 92, Hadith # 384]
Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mumin Ayat 12. “when Allah Alone was invoked (in worship, etc.) you disbelieved” The word Ummah here stands for the community which accepted the invitation of the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH), that is to say, the people who on his call embraced Islam. Out of this community who follow him faithfully will go to Jannah.
