Ayat 13. But if they turn away, then say (O Muhammad [SAWW](PBUH): "I have warned you of a Sa'iqah (a destructive awful cry, torment, hit, a thunderbolt) like the Sa’iqah which overtook 'Ad and Thamud (people)."
Ayat 14. When
the Messengers came to them, from before them and behind them (saying):
"Worship none but Allah" They said: "If our Lord had so willed, He
would surely have sent down the angels. So indeed! We disbelieve in that
with which you have been sent."
Tafseer of Surah Ha-Mim Al-Sajdah (or Surah Fussilat) Ayat 13. But if they turn away, say thou: "I have warned you of a stunning Punishment (as of thunder and lightning) like that which (overtook) the ´Ad and the Thamud!" See verse 17 of this Surah. Ayat 14. Behold, the messengers came to them, from before them and behind them, (preaching): "Serve none but Allah." They said, "If our Lord had so pleased, He would certainly have sent down angels (to preach). Now we reject your mission (altogether). 'From before them and behind them": i.e., from every side. They were warned from every point of view. Cf. l5:7, 6:8-9. The 'Ad had more power and material civilization than the Pagan Arabs contemporary with the Prophet. But the greater the material civilization, the greater the arrogance as the besetting sin.
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH)
said, "There are no days during which the righteous action is so
pleasing to Allah than these days (i.e., the first ten days of
Dhul-Hijjah).'' He was asked: "O Messenger of Allah [SAWW], not even Jihad in the Cause of Allah?'' He [SAWW](PBUH)
replied, "Not even Jihad in the Cause of Allah, except in case one goes
forth with his life and his property and does not return with either of
it.'' [Al-Bukhari Volume 02, Book 15, Hadith # 086].
Lesson:
This Hadith brings out the following two points: 1. Righteous deeds
during the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah are far better and
more rewarding than righteous deeds done on other days of the year,
because they are Hajj days in the sacred season of pilgrimage. Because
of their excellence and importance, Allah (SWT) swore by them, thus: "By
the Dawn; by the ten Nights...'' (89:1, 2) 2. Jihad has great eminence in Islam.
