[52] Surah At-Tur [The Mount]: Ayat 035-036

Ayat 35. Were they created by nothing, or were they themselves the creators?
Ayat 36. Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they have no firm Belief.

Tafseer of Surah At-Tur (The Mount) Ayat 35. Were they created of nothing, or were they themselves the creators? Were they created of nothing? Three possible alternative meanings are suggested by the Commentators, according to the meaning we give to the Arabic preposition min = of, by, with, for. (1) 'Were they created by nothing? Did they come into existence of themselves? Was it a mere chance that they came into being? (2) Were they created as men out of nothing? Was there not a wonderful seed, from which their material growth can be traced, as the handiwork of a wise and wonderful Creator? Must they not then seek His Will? (3) Were they created for nothing, to no purpose? If they were created for a purpose, must they not try to learn that purpose by understanding Allah's Revelation? 36. Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, they have no firm belief. They obviously did not create the wonders of the starry heavens and the fruitful globe of the earth. But they can assign no definite cause to explain it, as they have no firm belief on the subject themselves.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah cid:image004.gif@01D1E116.B3201790[SAWW](PBUH) said, "He who does not acquire knowledge with the sole intention of seeking the Pleasure of Allah but for worldly gain, will not smell the fragrance of Jannah on the Day of Resurrection.''  [Abu Dawud Hadith # 3664].

Lesson : This Hadith has an inducement for acquiring knowledge for the Pleasure of Allah alone. If a religious scholar acquires it to make it a means of worldly gains, then it turns to such a serious crime that such a scholar will not even smell the fragrance of Jannah (i.e., he will not enter it along with the saved). May Allah save us from it. However, if a scholar gains wealth and worldly gains through it without any intention, then it is altogether a different matter. In that case, it is not harmful for him as long as he uses it in a manner pleasing to Allah.
