[27].Surah Al-Naml [The Ants]: Ayat 34

Ayat 34. She said: "Verily! Kings, when they enter a town (country), they despoil it, and make the most honorable amongst its people low. And thus they do.

Tafseer of Surah Al Naml (The Ants) Ayat 34. She said: "Kings, when they enter a country, despoil it, and make the noblest of its people its meanest thus do they behave. The character of Queen Bilqis, as disclosed here, is that of a ruler enjoying great wealth and dignity, and the full confidence of her subjects. She does nothing without consulting her Council, and her Council are ready to carry out her commands in all things. Her people are manly, loyal, and contented, and ready to take the field against any enemy in their country. But their queen is prudent in policy, and is not willing to embroil her country in war. She has the discrimination to see that Solomon is not like ordinary kings who conquer by violence. Perhaps in her heart she has a ray of divine light already, though her people are yet Pagans. She wishes to carry her people with her in whatever she does, because she is as loyal to them as they are to her. An exchange of presents would probably establish better relations between the two kingdoms. And perhaps she anticipates some spiritual understanding also, a hope which was afterwards realized. In Bilqis we have a picture of womanhood, gentle, prudent, and able to tame the wilder passions of her subjects.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) said: "Do not crave for property lest you should be absorbed in the desire of worldly life.''  [At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 2328]

Lesson : The word "Dai'ah'' translated here as "property'' means land, industry, agriculture or business. One should not be so engrossed in them to the extent that, they become the sole purpose of one's life and all one's efforts are exhausted to acquire them, thus forgetting all about the Hereafter. To the extent of one's genuine needs and self-sufficiency, making and maintaining of property, land, industry, agriculture and commerce come in permissible acts. None of them is forbidden provided the means employed for making and maintaining them are fair and do not distract one's attention from Allah and the Hereafter.
