Ayat 18. Indeed, Allah was pleased with the believers when they gave their Bai’a (pledge) to you (O Muhammad [SAWW](PBUH) under the tree, He knew what was in their hearts, and He sent down As-Sakinah (calmness and tranquility) upon them, and He rewarded them with a near victory,
Tafseer of Surah Al-Fath Ayat 18 & 19. Allah’s Good Pleasure was on the Believers when they swore Fealty to thee under the Tree. He knew what was in their hearts, and He sent down Tranquility to them; and He rewarded them with a speedy Victory; The noun from the very radiya is Ridwan (Good Pleasure); hence the name of this Bay'ah, Bay'at al Ridwan, the Fealty of Allah's Good Pleasure: see 48:10. The great ceremony of the Fealty of Allah's Good Pleasure took place while the Prophet sat under a tree in the plain of Hudaibiyyah. Or tested: see 47:31. Sakinah = Peace, calm, sense of security and confidence, tranquility. Cf. 48:4. The same word is used in connection with the battle of Hunayn in 9:26, and in connection with the Cave of Thawr at an early stage in the Hijrah: 9:40. The Treaty of Hudaibiyyah itself was a "speedy Victory": it followed immediately after the Bay'ah. 19. And many gains will they acquire (besides): and Allah is Exalted in Power, Full of Wisdom.
Hazrat Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Whenever the Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH)
set out to participate in Jihad, he would supplicate: "Allahumma Anta
`adudi wa nasiri, bika ahulu, wa bika asulu, wa bika uqatilu (O Allah,
You are my Supporter and my Helper. With Your help I get strength, and
with Your help I bounce upon the enemy and defeat it, and with Your help I fight).'' [Abu Dawud Hadith # 2632 and At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 3584].
Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Fath Ayat 18. “and He rewarded them with a near victory” Along with the physical resources for war, one should also pray for victory, and for that, it is essential that one submits to Allah, remembers Him and seeks His Help. Prayer is a great source of strength and support for a Muslim and he must make full use of it. The Hadith also teaches us what to say when one sets out for Jihad.
