[57] Surah Al-Hadid [The Iron]: Ayat 022

Ayat 22. No calamity befalls on the earth or in yourselves but is inscribed in the Book of Decrees (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfouz), before We bring it into existence. Verily, that is easy for Allah.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Hadid Ayat 22. No misfortune can happen on earth or in your souls but is recorded in a decree before We bring it into existence: That is truly easy for Allah. External disasters or misfortunes may strike people's eye or imagination, but there are worse crises and misfortunes in the spiritual world, which are of equal or greater importance to man's future. All this happens according to the Will and Plan of Allah. Even where we are allowed the exercise of our own wills, the consequences that follow are in accordance with the laws and Plan decreed by Allah beforehand. For bara'a, 'to bring into existence', and other words denoting Allah's creative energy, see 2:117; and 6:94; and 6:98.

Hazrat Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah cid:image004.gif@01D23399.D6469B10 [SAWW](PBUH) passed by a woman who was crying over a grave and said, "Fear Allah and be patient.'' She said, "Away from me! My calamity has not befallen you and you are not aware of it.'' The woman was later told that it was the Prophet cid:image004.gif@01D23399.D6469B10 [SAWW](PBUH) (who had advised her). She came to his door where she found no doorkeeper. She said, "(I am sorry) I did not know you.'' Messenger of Allah cid:image004.gif@01D23399.D6469B10 [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Patience is (becoming) only at the first (stroke) of grief". Another narration in Muslim says: The woman was crying over her son.  [Al-Bukhari Book 02, Chapter 23, Hadith # 372, and Muslim Book 04, Chapter 180, Hadith # 2013]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Hadid Ayat 22. No calamity befalls on the earth or in yourselves but is inscribed in the Book of Decrees (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfouz)" This Hadith indicates the excellence of the Prophet's character. The woman whom he advised to have patience did not behave properly, but the Prophet (PBUH) was neither annoyed nor did he reproach her. When she appeared before him for the second time, he again repeated his advice for patience. This Hadith has a great lesson for those who call people to the Right Path. Our scholars and preachers should follow this excellent example.
