Ayat
8. [Zakariya (Zachariah)]
said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached
the extreme old age."
Ayat 9. He said: "So (it will
be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before,
when you had been
nothing!"
[Tafseer] And so Gabriel called him,
saying: (O Zachariah! Lo! We bring you tidings of a son whose name is John)
Yahya in Arabic, because he has breathed life (ahya) into his mother's womb;
Zakariya. after a little reflection said in his
wonder) "So!", i.e."Can it really be so? Can I really have a son in my old age?"
The speech following, "Thy Lord saith," etc., will then be that of the
angel-messenger. Every man was nothing just before he was created, i.e., his
personality was called into being by Allah (Allah have given the same name to none before (him)) We
have not given before a son to Zachariah whose name is John; it is also said
that this means: there was no one before him whose name was John. Even if
there are material processes in forming the body, in accordance with the laws of
nature, the real creative force is in Allah. But here there is a subtler
meaning. John was the harbinger of Jesus, preparing the way for him: and this
sentence also prepares us for the more wonderful birth of Jesus
himself: Everything is possible with
Allah.
Hazrat Ubadah bin As-Samit (May Allah be
pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah
[SAWW](PBUH) said, "Whenever a Muslim supplicates Allah, He
accepts his supplication or averts any similar kind of trouble from him until he
prays for something sinful or something that may break the ties of
kinship.'' Upon this someone of the Companions said: "Then
we shall supplicate plenty.'' The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Allah is more plentiful
(in responding).''
[At-Tirmidhi Hadith #
3573].
Lesson : as
mentioned above in Surah Maryam Ayat 09."Your Lord says; It is
easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been
nothing!" We learn from this Hadith that prayer
(supplication) is beneficial to us in any case, because Almighty Allah
either grants the prayer we make, or if the supplication is not being accepted,
He removes some future trouble that was destined for us, or He grants us in full
in the Hereafter. A Muslim
should never feel shy of praying to Allah. In fact, he should persistently pray
because there is no end to His
Treasures.
