[19].Surah Maryam [Mary]:Ayat 10-11

Ayat 10. [Zakariya (Zachariah)] said: "My Lord! Appoint for me a sign." He said: "Your sign is that you shall not speak unto mankind for three nights, though having no bodily defect." Ayat 11. Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrâb (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon.

[Tafseer] (He said: My Lord!) O my Lord! (Appoint for me some token) some sign when my wife becomes pregnant. (He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shall not speak unto mankind) will not be able to speak to people (three nights) without suffering dumbness or any other illness. The "Sign", was not in order to convince Zakariya that the Lord's promise was true, for he had faith; but it was a symbol by which he was to show in his conduct that he was to conform to his new destiny as the father of Yahya who was to come. Yahya was to take up the work, and Zakariya was to be silent, (Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary) from the prayer hall, (and signified to them) he made gestures to them; and it is also said: he wrote on the ground to them: (Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night) pray to Him in the morning and at night.   

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "There are two statements that are light for the tongue to remember, heavy in the Scales and are dear to the Merciful: `Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan-Allahil-Azim [Glory be to Allah and His is the praise, (and) Allah, the Greatest is free from imperfection)'.''

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Maryam Ayat 11."glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon" This Hadith affirms that man's actions carry weight. On the Day of Judgment, his actions will be cast into the Balance. At that time Allah will endow these actions with weight, or according to some scholars, those records which register man's actions will be weighed. This is quite possible for the reason that Almighty Allah is Capable of weighing things without even their physical form. This discussion apart, when actions will be cast into the Balance, the formula mentioned in the Hadith, the utterance of which is very easy, will prove weighty. Every Muslim should make it a practice to repeat them frequently.
