[26].Surah Ash-Shuara [The Poets]: Ayat 63-68

Ayat 63. Then Allah inspired Musa PBUH (Moses) (saying): "Strike the sea with your stick." And it parted, and each separate part (of that sea water) became like the huge, firm mass of a mountain.
Ayat 64. Then brought near the others [Firaun's (Pharaoh) party] to that place.
Ayat 65. And Allah saved Musa PBUH (Moses) and all those with him.
Ayat 66. Then drowned (Firaun and) the others (in the Sea).
Ayat 67. Verily! In this is indeed a sign (or a proof), yet most of them are not believers.
Ayat 68. And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
Tafseer of Ayat 63 to 68. Then We told Moses by inspiration: "Strike the sea with thy rod." So it divided, and each separate part became like the huge, firm mass of a mountain. And We made the other party approach thither. The miracle was twofold: (1) Moses with his people passed safely through the sea; and (2) Pharaoh and his great host were drowned in the sea. We delivered Moses and all who were with him; But We drowned the others. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. As it was then, so it is now. In spite of the obvious Signs of Allah, people who are blind in their obstinate resistance to Truth accomplish their own destruction, while humble, persecuted men of Faith are transformed by the Light of Allah, and obtain salvation. And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. Nothing that the powers of Evil can do, will ever defeat the merciful Purpose of Allah. Evil, in resisting good, will effect its own destruction.
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH)observed Saum (fasting) on the day of `Ashura' and commanded us to fast on this day.  [Al-Bukhari Book 03, Chapter 31, Hadith # 222].
Lesson : as mentioned in another Hadith, it is stated that when the Prophet  (PBUH) emigrated from Makkah to Al-Madinah, he saw that the Jews were fasting on this day. He asked them why they did this on that day, and they told him that they did it for the reason that Allah granted Prophet Musa emancipation from Pharaoh on this day by drowning him in Sea, and so they observed Saum in token of their joy. On this, he  (PBUH) said that in this happiness of Prophet Musa, Muslims have a greater right to observe Saum than the Jews. Consequently, he also observed Saum on 10th of Muharram. Then, he said that if he lived the following year, he would observe Saum on 9th of Muharram also so that they would make themselves different from the Jews. According to another Hadith, he  (PBUH) ordained the Muslims to observe Saum on `Ashura' and in addition one more Saum on 9th or 11th of Muharram in opposition to the Jews.
