[26].Surah Ash-Shuara [The Poets]: Ayat 69-73

Ayat 69. And recite to them the story of Ibrahim PBUH (Abraham).
Ayat 70. When Ibrahim PBUH said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?"
Ayat 71. They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted."
Ayat 72. He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)?
Ayat 73. "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?"

Tafseer of Ayat 69 to 73. And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's PBUH story. For the argument of this Surah the incidents in Abraham's life are not relevant and are not mentioned. What is mentioned is: (1) the steps by which he taught about the sin of false worship, in the form of a Dialogue; (2) the aims of a righteous man not only for his individual life, but for his ancestors and posterity, in the form of a Prayer; and (3) a picture of the Future Judgment, in the form of a vision. (1) is covered by verses 70-82; (2) by 83-86; and (3) by 88-102. Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." They want to show their true and assiduous devotion. But Abraham goes at once to the heart of the matter by asking: "To whom is your devotion paid? Is the object worthy of it?" He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them), or do you good or harm?" Or do you good or harm?"

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "The religion (of Islam) is easy, and whoever makes the religion a rigour, it will overpower him. So, follow a middle course (in worship); if you can't do this, do something near to it and give glad tidings and seek help (of Allah) at morn and at dusk and some part of night".  [Al-Bukhari Book 01,Chapter 02, Hadith # 038]

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Ash-Shuara Ayat 70. "Ibrahim PBUH said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" " Besides moderation in worship, this Hadith enjoins that such times should be fixed for worship when one is fresh so that one feels pleasure in performing it. But this principle is for optional and voluntary prayers only. Obligatory Salat are to be performed at the prescribed times only.
