Ayat17. They regard as favour upon you (O Muhammad [SAWW](PBUH) that
they have embraced Islam. Say: "Count not your Islam as a favour upon
me. Nay, but Allah has conferred a favour upon you, that He has guided
you to the Faith, if you indeed are true.
Tafseer of Surah Al-Hujurat Ayat 49. Al Hujurat (The Chambers) Ayat 17. They impress on thee as a favour that they have embraced Islam. Say, "Count not your Islam as a favour upon me: Nay, Allah has conferred a favour upon you that He has guided you to the faith, if ye be true and sincere. Islam in itself is a precious privilege. By accepting it we confer no favour on its preacher or on any community. If the acceptance is from the heart, it is a great favour done to those who accept, that the Light of Allah has entered their hearts and they have received guidance.
Hazrat Sahl bin Saad (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said
to `Hazrat Ali bin Talib (May Allah be pleased with him), "By Allah, if
a single person is guided by Allah through you, it will be better for
you than a whole lot of red camels.'' [Al-Bukhari Book 04, Chapter 52, Hadith # 192]
Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Hujurat Ayat 17 “Allah has conferred a favour upon you, that He has guided you to the Faith, if you indeed are true” "Better for you than red camels'' is an allegory for everything that is better than anything else. Red camels used to be precious in Arabia, and their reference here is to highlight the value of guidance. Thus, this Hadith brings into prominence the importance of calling people towards Allah. But before calling others to the path of Allah, one must himself know it, and for this purpose, the knowledge of the Qur'an and Hadith is essential because one cannot provide any guidance in this respect without this knowledge.
