[50] Surah Qaf [Qaf]: Ayat 036-037

Ayat 36. And how many a generation We have destroyed before them, who were stronger in power than them, and (when Our Torment came) they ran for a refuge in the land! Could they find any place of refuge (for them to save themselves from destruction)?
Ayat 37. Verily, therein is indeed a reminder for him who has a heart or gives ear while he is heedful.

Tafseer of Surah Qaf Ayat 36 to 37. But how many generations before them did We destroy (for their sins), stronger in power than they? Then did they wander through the land: was there any place of escape (for them)? While virtue and righteousness will accomplish their final goal, what will be the End of Sin? Let the past tell its story. Many powerful and arrogant generations were swept away, to stray in the paths of misery, without any way of escape from the consequences of their sin. This was already seen in the life of this world. In the world to come, it will be worse, as already stated in verses 24-26 above. 37. Verily in this is a Message for any that has a heart and understanding or who gives ear and earnestly witnesses (the truth). As Christ said (Matt. 11:15), "he that hath ears to hear, let him hear". These are matters of high moment. Many spiritual lessons can be learnt from these things by anyone who has the heart and understanding to apply to Allah's teaching and can give genuine thought to what he sees, as a witness does who has to swear to the facts on his oath.

Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: We took Suhur (predawn meal) with the Messenger of Allah image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH) and then we stood up for (Fajr) Salat (prayer). It was asked: "How long was the gap between the two?'' He replied: "The time required for the recitation of fifty Ayat.''  [Al-Bukhari Book # 01, Chapter # 10, Hadith # 550].

Lesson: We learn from this Hadith that Suhur should be taken towards the end of its timing. This is the Sunnah of the Prophet image001.jpg [SAWW](PBUH). One should, however, take care that it is done before dawn.
